Hello there, Gill.
I appreciate you providing the detailed steps you've taken. Let's work together to ensure you can accurately track and report your mileage expenses.
Before we proceed, could you please clarify which QuickBooks product you have? Are you using QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Sole Trader? Any additional information you can provide can help us resolve your concern effectively.
If you're using QuickBooks Online, ensure you turned on your location so you can track your trips. For more information, you can refer to this article: Automatically track mileage in QuickBooks.
However, if you meant QuickBooks Sole Trader, you can manually navigate to the Mileage menu. Let me show you how to achieve this:
- Open your QuickBooks Sole Trader account.
- Go to the Mileage and Add trip.

- Enter the trip details, ensuring you mark it as Business to automatically calculate the deduction.

- Once done, click Save.
Once saved, you can view the trip in the Income Tax Self-Assessment by going to the Taxes tab and selecting the relevant tax year. For further guidance, refer to the sample screenshot provided.
