Hello All,

I sale Tires.  The State of Louisiana requires that I collect a disposal Fee for each new tire sold, as well as a processors fee.  By Law, these fees can not be included in the tire price.

I was looking for a way to Link 2 Line items in quick books pro 2017.

Example:

Quantity         Item                       Description                        Price               Tax

    2                  Tires               235-55-17 Toyo tire              $199.99            Tax

2                Disposal          Louisiana State Fee                   $2.00            Non

Hi, @simotors.

Welcome to the Community. You've come to the right place to get help with QuickBooks. I've got just the thing to help you group your line items to track those specific fees for your tire sales.

QuickBooks has a feature called Item Groups. This allows you to group items and services together to generate one price and one line item. Here's how:

  • Choose Lists, and then click Item List.

  • Select the Item drop-down and click New (Ctrl+N).

  • Click the Type drop-down arrow and then select Group.

  • In the Group Name/Number field, enter a name or number for the group item.

  • Enter a Description of the group item.

Note: This description appears on sales forms.
(Optional) If you want your customers to see a list of the individual items and their amounts on your forms, check the Print items in group checkbox.
Note: Subitems of an item in a group doesn't appear on printed forms.

  • Leave the checkbox unselected if you don't want the details to appear on your forms.

  • In the Item column, select the items that you want to include in this group (the tire, and any associated fees).

Note: You can include a maximum of 20 items in a group.

  • In the Qty column, enter the quantity that you want QuickBooks to enter for each individual item when you use the group item.

Note: If you don't enter quantities, QuickBooks default the quantity of each item to 1. You can always change the quantities when you enter a sale or purchase.

  • Click OK to save the item.

Try these steps and let me know if they fit your business model. If you have any questions about this or anything else QuickBooks, feel free to reach out again.

Thank you for the invoice info.  I have done all of that and I see that you can print line items or not.  My questions is there a way to make it print the line items on the estimate but on other forms.  We use the estimate for office info so I would like to see the breakdown but we don't do the break down for the customers.

Thank you,

Hello there, BlondeBookkeeper.

What information is in the estimate will be transferred to the invoice every time we invoice it to our customer.

That being said, printing the line items from the invoice all depends on how items we've made and used on the estimate. I'll surely send this feedback to our software engineers. It might be given a chance to be added in the next product updates.

Does quickbooks have reports for these group items?

Hello, @enoggle.

Let me share some information on how you can maximize the use of the QuickBooks Online Bundles feature.

Group Items is currently not available in QuickBooks Online. However, you can use QuickBooks Bundles to group the products and or services that you “sell” together. You can follow the steps below on how to set it up.

undefined

Also, when generating the Sales by Product/Service Summary, it will display the total sales for each product or service included on each bundle. However, there's no specific inventory report specific to each report. Just a heads-up,

Lastly, you can customize this report and memorized it to save its customized settings. This way, it would be easy for you to view the details that matter the most to your business.

I'm always here to help if you have any other concerns or questions. Just tag my name in the comment section and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Hi - I have set up several groups in our item list, but is there a way to enter more than one quantity at a time? If a customer orders 2 of the same group item, I key 2 in the quantity column, but all the components revert to 1.

TIA!

Let me provide some insights about modifying the quantity on the sales form, suspenz.

Yes, the system will revert all components to 1 once you enter "2" for the parent group name. This happens when you enter a quantity of 2 for the item list under the group item.

If you enter 5, the system will automatically enter "2.5" for the quantity.

group bundle.PNG

The number of quantities for the item list under a group will depend on the number of the quantity you've set up. Here's another screenshot for your visual guide.

You can override the number of quantities when creating an invoice. This will still reduce the stock of each item.

I'm adding this link for additional information: Introducing QuickBooks Bundles and Reorder Points.

You can also browse this article in case you need to keep an eye on your product lists: Set up and track your stock in QuickBooks Online.

We aren't using bundles. Our products can be sold individually or as part of a "kit" so we don't want to reserve the individual products for the bundles. We have set up our kits as group items. When we create a new packing slip, we can enter the group item and all the individual products populate correctly. However, if a customer orders 2 or more of the same group item, the quantity on the packing slip remains as 1 group item. Is there a way we can enter 2 group items without having to manually update the quantities for each individual item in the group? I hope this makes sense!

Thank you for the additional information, @suspenz.

In QuickBooks Online, we can only group multiple products or services together using Bundles. When you enter the quantity, it will automatically update the number of each item in the group.

However, if it doesn't work this way, issues like this are usually the result of outdated or corrupt cache files in your web browser. Browser caches help speed up basic browsing that allows you to save more time when loading repetitive images or information. However, it can impact processes and cause this unexpected behavior when your browser accumulates too much historical data. Not to worry, you can clear them in just a few easy steps.

In the meantime, we can start by accessing your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:

  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command+Shift+N

If it's responsive, I recommend that you clear it's cache. By clearing the browser's cache, you can remove that historical data and access QuickBooks with a clean slate.

On the other hand, if you're referring to something else, can you share more details about what you're trying to achieve? I'm determined to ensure your success.

I've got here some resources you can get a better grasp with tracking inventories in QuickBooks Online:
