Journal numbers for imported journals

Hi

I am going to try and use the import data process to import journals from an Excel or csv file into QBOL. The guidance that I have read so far indicates that it is necessary to add a journal number to the data upload file.

I am wondering how this plays with the next numbering of journals in QB for journals input manually. Does QBOL just ignore the uploaded journal number and carry on using its in-built next numbering for the next manually entered journal.

Thanks,

Martin.

P.S I think I may have put this question in the wrong place?

Thanks for getting back here, @Martin506506.

Transaction numbers are important in managing your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data. Allow me to provide additional info to further help you with this.

The QBO numbering system works sequentially. When importing, the program will follow the number of the last transaction entered. To help you import the CSV file properly, you need to make sure that the first number in the file is in sequence with what is in the QBO. For instance, if the last JE number in the QBO is 100, the first CSV transaction number should be 101.

Once everything is set, you're now ready to import your JE transactions

Journal numbers for imported journals

Good day, Martin506506.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. Let me share some insight about importing journal entries in QuickBooks Online.

When you import a journal entry there are the following columns required to successfully import it. The following templates are:

  • Journal No
  • Journal Date
  • Journal Code
  • Account Name
  • Journal
  • Debits
  • Credits
  • Select date format

That said, the system generated the journal's build-in number sequence.

We also have a guide on how to Import journal entries in QuickBooks Online that I'm sure you'll find helpful.

Let us know if you have other questions or concerns. We in the Community will always here to lend a hand. Take care and I wish you have great day ahead!

Dear Ailene,

I am probably being a bit slow here but when you say:

"That said, the system generated the journal's build-in number sequence"

I am not sure what that means. The upload template seem to require that I provide a journal number. Will that mess with the automatic sequencing in QBOL.

Thanks,

Martin
