Glad to have you back, @Michael Hunter.

I can help you customise your invoice template and have the PO number to show up. This can be done by adding a custom field. Let's do this.

You have the option to add a custom field on any of your sales forms to add your desired information on your transaction in our Plus package

To do that:

  1. Click on the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select on Custom Form Styles.
  3. Click on the New Style button.
  4. Choose Invoice.
  5. Select the Content tab.
  6. Tick on the upper part of the sample invoice in the right.
  7. Refer to the Display section.
  8. Tap on the Custom Fields button.
  9. Put a check-mark on the box and enter the PO number.
  10. Click on Save

From then on, you can now enter PO numbers on your invoice transaction.

That should do the trick, Michael.

I've included here some resources that you can check out about customising and handling sales forms in QuickBooks Online for your future reference:

Please let me know how these setups work for you. I want to ensure you'll get what you need. Take care!

Hi Michael Hunter,

I'd like to provide some information and help you in getting your purchase order number added.

The above steps is only available in QuickBooks Online Plus. If you're using QuickBooks Simple Start or Essentials, adding the custom field is unavailable. You'll want to enter your purchase order number in the Description column or the Message on invoice section.

If you're already using the Plus version, you'll want to access your account via a private browser to check if it's browser-related issue or not. Just press CTRL+SHIFT+N.

Please check our website for more information: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/uk/pricing/.

I've also added our page about managing customers and income for reference of your future tasks.

Get back to me if there's anything else you need help with. I'll be around for you.

I've switched to QB Online from QB Desktop this week and can not believe that this is a special feature only included in the premium package.  Invoices created on the desktop version and imported to QB online have the purchase order but if I try but it's not included when you create a new invoice online. Given that most companies in the UK will not pay invoices if they do not include their purchase order number this is a loss of functionality.

This is obviously not a new issue as people have been asking this question for at least a year or one that is confined to the UK as I've seen similar questions/comments on the Australian and South African community pages. Hopefully QB will start to listen to their customers and provide this very basic functionality at all subscription levels.
