Release notes for QuickBooks Desktop 2018

Learn what’s new and improved in the latest updates to QuickBooks Desktop 2018 and Enterprise 18.0.

We update QuickBooks regularly to give you a better experience and fix issues. These release notes explain what's new.

Note that each new update includes all the changes from earlier updates.

If you have automatic updates turned on, QuickBooks will download updates for you. But you can check for updates manually at any time.



Find File
  • Easily find and open your company files with the addition of a file search option on the No company open screen.
Other updates
  • Applying discounts no longer causes a Cash Basis Balance Sheet out of balance issue
  • Users can now activate manual payroll from the Preferences menu
  • Updated to comply with new Gmail requirements
Bug Fixes
  • Company file not longer is changed if Accountant directly copies the .qbw file instead of using the QuickBooks menu option
  • Installer no longer crashes when not connected to the internet

Here’s what’s new in this update.

  • Change in QuickBooks File Manager password reset
QuickBooks File Manager Password Reset
  • Resetting the password now requires using your license information instead of answering challenge questions.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed the issue preventing you to set up passwords for your clients in QuickBooks File Manager.

What's important about Release 10?

Accountant's Copy File Transfer
  • We've made improvements to the ACFT experience for better collaboration with accountants.
  • Enhanced IIF import and fixes to common bugs and known issues:
    • Accept decimal and standard time format in the Timer activity record
    • IIF import for employee names
    • IIF invoice to allow negative qty in the same invoice
    • Fixed the spelling to ENDTNS

What's important about Release 8?

Bank Feeds
  • Improved messaging and fixes for common errors in bank feeds
Accounts Receivable
  • Fixed issue that caused the Invoice form to freeze for Users with Microsoft Outlook installed
  • Added a troubleshoot button to fix errors that occur when saving forms as PDF or printing them
User Interface
  • Improved error messages with clear instructions if action is required

What's important about Release 7?

Emailing Forms
  • Fixed unrecoverable error when batch emailing forms inc. payslips, invoices and/or statements
  • Resolved QuickBooks crash when trying to sync Contacts with Outlook 2013
  • Introduced additional security and verification for payslips when being emailed

What's important about Release 6?

  • 2018'19 Tax Table Update for Personal Tax Allowance and tax codes.
  • New Scottish Rates of Income Tax 2018/2019 including two new tax codes and changed thresholds for two other rates.
  • Minimum Auto Enrolment contributions have increased.
  • Student Loan repayment thresholds for 2018-19 have increased.

What's important about Release 4?

  • Fixed a crash while exporting a report to an existing excel sheet which is in use
  • Fixed an unrecoverable error which was seen when opening an item in the stock centre

What's important about Release 3?

QuickBooks File Manager (QFM)
  • QuickBooks File Manager (QFM) is now available to be used in QuickBooks Desktop 2018
  • Fixed issues in Cheques and Customer Centre that were causing Unrecoverable Errors in QuickBooks
  • Fixed VAT Code field which was accepting more than three characters and resulted in an error
