Business is registered for MTD. Advice of cancellation letter from HMRC says final Return should be submitted by 15th May and cover the period up to the day before the VAT registration is cancelled. This is why I'm wondering if I should have put the end date as 30th March and not 31st March and maybe this why HMRC has rejected the Return.
A pleasant day to you, @paperwork.
I'd like to ensure that you'll be able to submit your VAT return successfully.
To verify the exact submission date of your return, I recommend logging in to your HMRC account. This way, you'll be able to confirm which dates they are expecting you to submit it.
Once verified, you can change the end date by clicking on Resubmit return within the Taxes tab and change the End Date to the desired date.
If you're getting an error upon changing the dates. It'd be best to contact our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to check on the status of your return and help you with the modification.

Betty and John,
Thank you so much for getting back to me on this. It now turns out that the error was on HMRC's side and the solution was to submit the Final Return manually but I do appreciate you getting back to me to try and help.
