Hello, My account is connected to my HMRC account and my VAT making tax digital email confirmation as come through - however error: CLIENT_OR_AGENT_NOT_AUTHORISED

Let me help you sort this out, @kstorrie.

 

The error prompt CLIENT_OR_AGENT_NOT_AUTHORISED means that the credentials used to connect QBO to HMRC for MTD are not authorized to retrieve details or do a VAT filing for the VAT Registration number in the VAT settings.

 

There are several potential reasons you’re prompted with this error.

  • It’s possible that you’ve just signed up for MTD and is not yet set up on HMRC. You’ll need to wait for the confirmation email from HMRC confirming that they can file on MTD.
  • You’ve entered incorrect login details. Ensure the same login credentials are being used for the connection setup through QBO.
  • Your MTD connection was set up by your accountant. Just enter your own MTD details so you can proceed with the process.
  • If you’re the one who set up the MTD connection, let your accountant connect with your account so they can submit it on your behalf.
  • Also, let’s make sure to enable yourself to file for your company on HMRC’s side.
  • Lastly, your VAT registration number should exactly match in QuickBooks and HMRC.

 

To resolve the error, here's how:

  1. Click the Learn More button. 
  2. Choose the Agent Services Account link.
  3. Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the process.

Thank you for your help :) added notes to the below to try and identify where the problem is,

  • You’ve entered incorrect login details. Ensure the same login credentials are being used for the connection setup through QBO. - how do I check this/re-enter this?
  • Your MTD connection was set up by your accountant. Just enter your own MTD details so you can proceed with the process. - was set up by myself last night
  • If you’re the one who set up the MTD connection, let your accountant connect with your account so they can submit it on your behalf. - can I not submit it on my account?
  • Also, let’s make sure to enable yourself to file for your company on HMRC’s side. - do they have a list of people/accounts that can submit?
  • Lastly, your VAT registration number should exactly match in QuickBooks and HMRC - it matches exactly,

We would be grateful if you can disconnect from MTD/HMRC and reconnect to establish if this resolves the issue.

Select the cog/gear icon in the top right hand corner of the screen, once logged in, > account and settings > advanced > within the mtd section select learn how to disconnect, once disconnected select learn how to connect in the same section and follow the instructions.

Thank you - disconnected twice and re-granted access but no success, will call HMRC tomorrow to see if anything wrong from their side with my account - may mean a late submission :(

 

 I have sent them the money at least - just unable to connect to send them the detail...
