Hello, @caragh.

Thank you for raising this matter in the QuickBooks Sole Trader Forum.

Could you please describe the specific actions you are trying to perform? You mentioned you were unable to complete your accounts for the last tax year. What was the outcome, and what prevented you from continuing? Did you encounter an error?

You may also need to file a return if you had untaxed income such as rental income, tips or commissions, savings interest, dividends, or foreign income. If you are unsure, use HMRC’s online checker.

If you have further questions, we'll be right here to help you anytime.

I'm unable to complete last year's tax return as I can only see my bank transactions for this year? Any ideas how I can alter this please so I can file last year's return! Thanks

HI there, @caragh.

In QuickBooks, if you haven’t uploaded last year’s transactions and your bank isn’t connected, you may need to manually upload the transactions. Once uploaded, you will need to categorize them so they appear on your reports. This will allow you to complete last year’s tax return.

Here's how to categorize transactions:

  1. Go to Transaction and select Bank Transaction.
  2. From the Category column, select the one you want to change.
  3. From the dropdown, select a category that best describes the reason for the transaction.
