I currently use Xero and have MTD working fine.

I am trying to migrate to Quickbooks and when you go to set up MTD it kinda assumes you have not previously set anything up with HMRC.    I have put in all the correct information but Quickbooks just says "We can’t connect to HMRC right now"

I figure I have to authorise Quickbooks to access my VAT account but the setup process doesn't seem to allow me to do that.  Do I have to disconnect Xero first?  Can you only have one app allowed to post VAT returns?

What is the correct process for migrating MTD from Xero to Quickbooks?

I had already done all of that but it wasn't working.  In the end I disconnected from MTD and reconnected again and that time it was OK <shrug>.     I guess there must have been some sort of blip there.

Hello there, @kpturner

Thanks for visiting the Community. You're right, You'll need to authorize QuickBooks to interact with HMRC. You don't need to disconnect Xero but you can follow the steps to authorize QuickBooks to Interact with HMRC - MTD for Small Businesses

For more information, here's an article from the HMRC that will guide you through the authorization process: Authorise new clients
