Thank you for your help. I have worked out what the problem is.

As the client is MTD enabled I am not able to make the selection as the VAT period is dictated by the HMRC link. I have disabled the quickbooks for MTD and can select. However, the return submission failed :-(.

Will have to call HMRC tomorrow now

Hello there, @jeremygilks.

Since your client's Vat return's Accounting period is set to Quarterly, change the reporting period on what the date you'll want to include in the return.

  1. Go to the Taxes menu and select VAT.
  2. From the Returns tab, look for the October return and click Prepare return
  3. Select the date range, above the VAT Return.
  4. Click on the Submit to HMRC button.

I've added sample screenshots for your additional reference:

If you're unable to change it, I'd suggest contacting a tax adviser or HMRC support to ensure that you've properly handled your VAT return.

I've also included these articles that may give you more information on how to report your VAT returns:

You can always get back in the comment section if you have other questions. I'd be happy to assist you further. Take care.
