VAT return submitted but not on HMRC records

Hi,

I submitted my VAT return for 2019 (period 01/01-11/11) on the 8th of January 2020. We only started to trade in November but obviously we had few expenses and we are expecting a repayment. Even after more than 72 hours nothing appears on my HMRC account regarding this outstanding VAT repayment. On QB this return is in the paid returns section (althought nothing has been paid/refund) and in the action drop down menu I only have "view VAT details", "view exception details" and "record refund". Did I screw up when submitting our first VAT return? Is it because I claimed VAT too late or after I opted for Tax Digital? Or could that simply be a delay on the HMRC side?  I just want to make sure I did everything correctly on QB before contacting HMRC. Thanks a lot in advance for your time and your help. Mickael

VAT return submitted but not on HMRC records

You can check the VAT return, Mika2.

If the return is filed electronically, there will be a prompt with Accepted by HMRC on the upper left when viewing the return. Here's how to check:

  1. Click Taxes on the left pane.
  2. Select VAT.
  3. Go to Returns.
  4. Click the return to open and see if it has the prompt. If not then it was only mark as filed in QuickBooks.

You'll have to contact QuickBooks support for an agent to help you with unfiling the VAT returns. Here's how:

  1. Click the Help icon.
  2. Click the Contact us button.
  3. Enter unfile VAT return, then click Let's talk.
  4. Select from Start a chat, or Get a callback.

VAT return submitted but not on HMRC records

Hi Mika2

Did you register for Making Tax Digital and activate it within QuickBooks and select submit return? Is the amount on the return correct? Did you receive an email from HMRC that the return has been submitted?

VAT return submitted but not on HMRC records

Hi John C,

Yes we are registered for Tax Digital and it's activated on QB. The amount of the return seems correct yes. No email from HMRC regarding this return but I can't see a track of any return submitted on my HMRC dashboard... Would that mean I didn't submitted it? If that's the case, is there a way to resubmit it? Once again many thanks for your help!
