VAT Return submission containing an exception report from previous VAT period.

Hello,

I have mistakenly created an invoice at the previous VAT period. As soon as I realize the mistake I created a credit note to amend it. But while I am trying to submit the current VAT there is a notification of exception report. It said to check the exception report before submitting the current period VAT. I checked and the exception report amount is zero. Now I want to submit my VAT return, can I submit now as the exception report notification is still shown at my current VAT period?

Yes, you can submit your VAT return, Nabayeel.

The Exception report will appear due to the invoice created in the previous period. Since you've already corrected it, you can now submit your taxes to HMRC.

I'm glad to show you how:

  1. Go to Taxes from the left navigation bar, then select VAT.
  2. Select Submit return to view your open return.
  3. Confirm the dates and figures are correct.
  4. Click File online with HMRC.
  5. Enter your Government Gateway User ID and Government Gateway Password, then select Yes, I want to proceed.
  6. QuickBooks Online will now connect to HMRC to submit your VAT return.
