Re: VAT Return

OK Emma, if you say it's OK then I'll go along with that although it feels a little unsatisfactory, as though that return is stuck in some sort of nether world!

Re: VAT Return

Hi Steve

Can I confirm are you using Quickbooks Online? Have you submitted outside of Quickbooks to HMRC and just want to mark as filed?

If so you can go to  taxes and then click on submit return and then on the drop down arrow to the right submit to HMRC hit on mark as filed

If you are using a different product let me know

Kind regards

Re: VAT Return

Hi Emma

Yes, I’m using Quickbooks online and the return was submitted outside QB to HMRC.

I have already tried to do what you suggest. However, on the drop-down box on the right I only have options to Record Refund, View Return, View VAT Details and View Exceptional Details – nothing else!

The return is shown as a “Submitted Return”, Status is “Approved”. All previous returns are shown as Filed, as is the one after this which, incidentally I didn’t do as I was ill! That’s my excuse anyway!

So, I don’t know how it got this “Approved” status nor how to change it. I hope you can help.

Re: VAT Return

Hi Steve

The only reason it would say approved is if the submit to HMRC button had been used in the Quickbooks otherwise it will just be under open or filed returns. Are you using  the flat  rate scheme? Can you provide a screenshot of the Taxes section?

Kind regards

I expect somebody pressed the wrong button but I can't be sure. How do I grab a screenshot and send it to you? Wouldn't it just be easier for you to jump on my PC using Easy Access or something?

Re: VAT Return

Hi Steve

It would be easier however unfortunately only our care team can do screen share (they use glance) as they are on the phones you can give them a call on 08082345337 and they can do this, they are open until 8pm.

You can do a print screen or use a tool like one note and take a screen scrape. Does the filing show in the vat control and vat suspense chart of accounts if so nothing needs to be changed as regards the accounting side of things. If it does show It is purely a visual thing and is recorded as filed.

If it does not show  you can  call in our care team and ask for them to delete the filing, though this is usually done when wrong dates or amounts are filed in Quickbooks they might be able to do this if it was accidentally hit and not Gateway data was entered(though this would usually bring a rejected status)

Kind regards

It shows as Filed in both VAT Control and Suspense. Does that mean I don't have to do anything, even though it shows as something different from the rest?

Re: VAT Return

Hi Steve

Yes if it shows as filed in those sections you do not have to do anything. You can record the payment/refund as normal. It just visually has a different status but has been recorded as filed

Re: VAT Return

Ha I get what you mean but it is correct in regards the recording of the filing:) If you are wanting it to be unfiled you can always call our care team on the number above but there is no error with the return though I appreciate it not be in the filed section with the others is annoying.

Kind regards
