2020 upgrade

I just upgraded my QBs desktop pro from my 2017 to the 2020. My bank accounts for bank feeds are not recognized by the program.  The account numbers are listed as all letters and I cannot find how to edit this.

Good day, scaryvet. I'm here to lend a hand.

Let's isolate the issue by trying the same process using a sample company file in QuickBooks. If you didn't get the same result on the test file, run the Verify/Rebuild Utility on the actual company. This built-in tool automatically fixes minor company file data issues.

Here's how:

  1. At the top, go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities from the list.
  3. Pick the Verify Data tool and wait until the diagnosis is done.
  4. If there are issues, proceed to rebuilding the company file.
  5. Tap File menu then hover over Utilities.
  6. Choose Rebuild Data then click OK.
  7. Follow the onscreen steps to save a backup.

However, if the problem persists on the sample company file, use the Repair Tool. It fixes most issues with the software.

To complete the process, follow these steps:

  1. Create a back up your company file beforehand to avoid any accidental data loss.
  2. Reboot the computer.
  3. Tap the Windows Start menu.
  4. Find Control Panel on the search field or select it from the list.
  5. Press Programs and Features then Uninstall a Program.

Note: If you don't see Programs and Features, select Programs instead. Then select Program and Features.

  6. Select QuickBooks from the list of Programs.
  7. Press Uninstall/Change.
  8. Click on Continue, or Next. then Repair.
  9. Press Next again then wait for the tool to start its diagnosis.
  10. Hit Finish when done.

You can visit the Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows article to learn more about repairing QuickBooks and its complete steps.

I'll appreciate if you can update me on the results. I want to ensure that this gets resolved for you. Have a great day.

No. None of these fixed the problem. I tried some solutions in community.  I cannot use my QB at all.  I need HELP.

I also cannot not use payroll at all.  It seems to be an encryption problem with social security numbers.  Please help.  I cannot use payroll or my bank accounts.

Hey there, @scaryvet.

Hope your day is going great so far. Thanks for trying the steps my colleague provided previously and other possible solutions in the Community. If the Verify & Rebuild process didn't resolve your issue, the next step is to run the File Doctor. This tool checks for data corruption and errors in the Company File and attempts to repair them. It's super easy to use the tool. Check it out:

  1. Close QuickBooks Desktop and download the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Save the file to your Desktop, then double-click the file to open it. The file will be named QuickBooksToolHub.exe.
  3. Go through the installation prompts and agree to the terms and conditions.
  4. When it's finished installing, click the Windows Start Menu and do a search for QuickBooks Tool Hub and open it.
  5. Within the Tool Hub, navigate to the Company File Issues tab.
  6. Use the Run QuickBooks File Doctor option and wait for it to open.
  7. Once it's opened, choose your Company File using the drop-down menu. If you don't see the File, hit Browse and search to find it.
  8. Choose the middle option, Check your file, then Continue.
  9. Enter the Admin password for the Company File and select Next. This will start a scan of the File. In most cases, it will only take up to 5 minutes.
  10. Once the scan is finished, open your Company File in QuickBooks. Your issue should be resolved (even if the scan said it was unsuccessful).

Another great option would be restoring a Backup of the 2017 version of the Company File into QuickBooks Desktop 2020 and see if it works properly.

Use the Reply button and I'll be here if you run into any other questions. Enjoy your Wednesday.
