Account Suspend and Re-activate at a later date without paying monthly subscription fee

Hi,

We sold our business in 2017. I have kept our QB Online account active since that time as I wanted access to the detailed records and transaction data.

Can I suspend my account - and avoid the monthly subscription fees as I am not using the account - and then re-activate at a later date (and of course re-start the monthly billing)?

I likely won't need access to the data during the suspension, but will it be available as read only data during that time?

Love your product, and will use it again for the next company but am in a transition right now but don't want to lose permanent access to my old company's data.

Thanks again!

Steve

Account Suspend and Re-activate at a later date without paying monthly subscription fee

Hi there @stevehasall,

We truly appreciate you expressing your love for QuickBooks and thank you for being part of the family.

For your first question, yes, you can suspend your account and avoid the monthly subscription too. Let me show you how.

  1. Sign in as an Admin to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Select the Gear icon, and choose Account and Settings.
  3. Click Billing and Subscription.
  4. In the QuickBooks section, select Cancel.
  5. Select Continue to Cancel, then Continue to Cancel again.
  6. Finally, answer the exit survey questions (to help us make QuickBooks better), then scroll down and select Confirm Cancel.

Regarding your second question, you can still access a read-only version of your data for a year from the day of your cancellation.

Please feel free to check this article for more details: Cancel Your QuickBooks Online Subscription or Trial.

You can always come back. We would be more than glad to welcome your business again in the future.

If there’s anything else I can help you with, I’m always here for you. Have an awesome day!

Account Suspend and Re-activate at a later date without paying monthly subscription fee

Hello,

I need to pause too. My business is in flux and we would like to suspend and also be able to re-activate this same account in a few months. Is it possible to cancel and then re-activate it? The steps sound like a final cancellation of the account. Am I able to reactivate it and restart where I left off?

Thank you

Pauline Saunders

@ptlais

It's nice to have you in the thread, Pauline. I'm here to provide clarification about pausing a subscription.

Once an account is canceled, it's data is stored for one year in a read-only state. During this time, you can resubscribe and pick back up where you left off. I suggest the bottom section of this article for additional information on this process: Cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription or trial.

You can always find me here if you have questions about your subscription or any other QuickBooks topic. Wishing you well.

I am trying to temporarily suspend my account but when I login in there is no gear for me to click on.  How do I suspend my account?

Thanks for joining this thread, 53030231.

If you have multiple companies associated with your email address in QuickBooks Online, you will need to select the company name first. This way, you can see the Gear option and then follow the steps provided above.

If this isn't the case, then we do can some troubleshooting steps to rule out any browser-related issues.

Here's how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Online account in an incognito or private browser. This mode prevents cache, or temporary internet files from being stored in your browser.
  2. Once logged in, check to see the Gear icon in the upper right-hand corner. If the option is available, let's go back to your regular browser and clear the cache. Clearing the browser's cache resolves missing buttons or other issues in your browser.
  3. We can also try using a different browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari) to investigate more on the issue.

Otherwise, contact our Customer Care Team by following these steps:

  1. Click the Help icon located in the upper right-hand corner.
  2. In the Help window, select the Contact Us button located at the bottom.
  3. Enter your question and hit the Let's talk button.
  4. Select Start messaging or Get a callback.

Please let us know how it goes or if you have other questions. Thanks.

Account Suspend and Re-activate at a later date without paying monthly subscription fee

I have a client being billed through my firm.  If I suspend their account, would they still be eligible for the accountant discount if they later reactivate it? Or would the reactivation be at the full monthly price?

I'm here share some information about the Wholesale Discount program, KACCPA.

When you suspend your client from the wholesale billing, they will still have view-only access for one year before their records will be permanently deleted. Your client will only get their full access back once their billing info has been updated. In addition, they'll lose any discount that your firm received. They will be billed at the regular rate.

You can assume the billing responsibility for an existing direct-billed client at a later date. After November 1, 2018, you can't apply the wholesale discount to existing clients.

You can follow the steps below if you wish to remove your client from wholesale billing:

  1. Click the Gear ⚙ icon.
  2. Choose Subscriptions & Billing.
  3. Select the clients that you want to remove.
  4. If that client is inactive, you need to make them active before you continue.
  5. Select Transfer billing to client from the Batch Actions dropdown menu,
  6. Hit Remove to complete the process.

I encourage you to read this article about the Wholesale Discount program policies.

Here's the article about the latest Wholesale Discount price change: New wholesale discount price changes.

Please leave a comment below if you have further questions about the Wholesale Discount program. I'll be right here to keep helping.

Hello there, bestbookkeepernj,

Your client will still have view-only access for one year before their records will be permanently deleted.

You can also delete a client in QuickBooks Online Accountant. Make sure to assign a new master admin if needed so they can have full control of their company.

Here’s how you can remove your client:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Subscriptions & Billing.
  3. Select the client you want to remove.
  4. From the Batch Actions dropdown, select Transfer billing to client.
  5. Select Remove.

Check out this article for more information: Manage clients with wholesale and direct billing.
