Accounts and 1099 preferences

I am trying to move a subaccount to a new parent account that I created and received the message that I needed to first delete its association in the 1099 preference. However, the payments made from this subaccount will receive a 1099 at the end of each year.  Not sure how to handle this.

Accounts and 1099 preferences

Hello there, Lydia P.

Let me help you move a subaccount to a new parent account in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

When trying to move a subacccount to a parent account, you'll want to unlink those payments associated for that subaccount for 1099. Make sure to take note of those payments because you will need to link it again to once  you move the subaccount to parent account.

To unlink the accounts association in the 1099 Preferences, here's how:

  1. Click the Edit menu at the top.
  2. Select Preferences on the drop-down
  3. Choose Tax: 1099 on the left pane.
  4. Go to Company Preferences tab.
  5. Under “If you want to map your account to boxes on Form 1099-MISC” , choose Click here.
  6. Change the selection to in the drop-down from to Show all accounts.
  7. From there you can change the setting for the account to Omit these payments from 1099.
  8. Then you can change the subaccount and select Save and Close.

You can also refer to this article for more information: QuickBooks 1099 Wizard. Once done, you'll need to assign the 1099 payments that were unlink to the right account.
