Adding Items as non inventory parts

Currently I add items as Non inventory parts and set them as items sold to a specific job. As I only order parts as I need them. I dont stock any one item i sell. When I set up a new item I put add my cost and the sale cost, my expense account is Cost of good sold and my income account is gross sales. I am trying to import an item list from an excel file that I got from my vendor so i dont have to manually enter them in every time I sell one. WHen doing so I only gives me item name/number, description and cost and whether or not its taxed. It does not give me the option for how much my cost is. If i set them up as non inventory items when importing them do i still use my income account gross sales? If i do that how how wil quickbooks know how much i am making off each part i am selling, through the purchase order? if thats the case i will still have to manually enter in each item number being purchased which is what im trying to avoid. Hope that all makes sense and hopefully someone can help me out.. THanks much.

Adding Items as non inventory parts

It's good to hear from you today, BrandonsATV.

I'd be glad to provide some information regarding adding non-inventory items in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

You have the option to use the Income Account Gross Sales for your non-inventory products. Also, you can open the imported items to edit and add the cost.

This way, QuickBooks will know how much you're making without manually entering each item number that's being purchased.

Here's how to edit an item:

  1. Click Lists at the top menu bar and select Items.
  2. Double-click the item you want to edit.
  3. Enter your changes in the Edit Item window.
  4. Choose OK.

To help you manage your items in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, you can go through this article: Add, edit, and delete items. This will provide you details on how much products you can set up as well as using group and assemblies in QuickBooks.

Keep me posted with any further questions about inventory and non-inventory items. I'll be right here to lend you a hand. Have a great rest of your day!

Adding Items as non inventory parts

i already know that i can do that, but that kind of defeats my purpose of importing them. theres 10 million items im trying to import and to have to do that to everyone of them could take a century. I guess if thats the only way to do it thats how ill have to do it.

doesn't that kind of defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to do. There is 10 million items that I am trying to add and import it would take me a century to go in there and change each and everyone of them. But I guess I will have to do that after every item that I enter in if there is no other way to do so I'm just trying to avoid typing them in
