An option for account numbers is to "show account numbers". Can I use the account numbers to order my P&L accounts, but behind the scenes, not on the reports?

Hi there, deanna11,

QuickBooks Online shows the account number in the register and reports. However, you're unable to use the it to order the accounts on the Profit and Loss (P&L) report.

You can use the Sort function in the P&L report to arrange the total amount by ascending or descending order. The workaround for this is export the statement to Excel, and arrange the account order from there.

The following steps outlined below will guide you:

  1. Open the Profit and Loss report.
  2. Click the Export icon, then pick Export to Excel.

You can also get the data that matters to you most by going through the Customize reports in QuickBooks Online link. It provides a quick video tutorial and detailed steps.

Keep me posted if there's anything else I can help you concerning reports. I'm always around to help you out.

Thank you and stay safe!
