Yes, tags are still functional, you'd still be able to create new tags and add them to your transactions, Wes33. There are two ways in adding a new tag in QBO. Let me provide more details below.
Please know that beginning May 16, 2025 you won't be able to create new tags as we will be moving to having custom fields functionality as a replacement for Tags.
When creating a tags in QBO, you can directly navigate through the Gear icon, or you can add it in the transaction.
To add it in the transaction, here's how:
- Open a transaction.
- Under Tags section, enter the name of the tag you want.
- Click Add new.
- If you want to add it in a group, choose a group you prefer.

To add it in the tags page, you can go to the Gear icon, then select Tags under Lists.

After May 16, 2025, you can migrate your tags to custom fields for tracking and reporting purposes. Custom fields will be available in all QBO plans, providing you with an alternative way to categorize and manage your transactions.
By using custom fields, you can continue to track and report on your transactions effectively.
