Authorized Accout User

I keep trying to create my back-up when closing out of QB, it is telling me I am not the "authorized user" of the account. What has happened that I have lost the authorized status in my own account? I've used the same account for nearly 11 years now.

Re: Authorized Accout User

It could be your admin account is corrupted, Auburnk2004.

Let's try to create a new password to refresh it. Here's how:

  1. Close the company file.
  2. Choose the company name, then click Open.
  3. In the QuickBooks Desktop Login window, click I forgot my password.
  4. Enter the needed information, then click OK.
  5. You'll receive a code through your registered email and enter it in QuickBooks.
  6. You'll be guided in creating a new admin password.

Once done, close and re-open QuckBooks, then create a backup

Re: Authorized Accout User

Kristine,

I tried exactly what you told me and when I logged in it looked a little different so I thought I was going to get right through. I still can not create a back-up. The message on my screen says " The currently logged in Windows User does not have permission to write or delete files from this location". I will be happily waiting your next suggestion.  I'm sorry I assumed it was corrected too quickly.

Thank you for the help,

Re: Authorized Accout User

Hi there, @auburnk2004.

I'm here to share additional troubleshooting steps to get past the error and create your backup successfully.

To start, let's set your QuickBooks to run as administrator.

Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Right-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon, then select Properties.
  3. Under the Compatibility tab, select Run this program as administrator.
  4. Select Apply, then OK.
  5. Create a backup

If you get the same error message, you'll need to check the permissions of the QuickBooks Desktop company file and correct it if necessary. Please see the following link for the steps to verify and set that permission is set correctly, as well as changing folder permissions and setting the Windows access permissions to share company files: Set up folder and Windows access permissions to share company files.

If you get the same result, I recommend repair QuickBooks to fix unexpected behavior like this.

Keep me posted if you have follow-up questions. I'd be glad to help you again.
