Beginning Balance

Hello, I started using QBO in 2016 and never reconciled my statements. I'm doing that now and was done with 2016 and half of 2017, then realized that I needed to deposit all the payments that I received. So I logged in as the accountant and unreconciled all of 2016. After doing this, the 2017 reconciliation disappeared.

Unreconcile means undo that work you already did.

Hello, @Leslie49.

When undoing your 2016 reconciliation, it also affects the transactions after that period. This could be the reason why your 2017 reconciliation disappeared. For now, you can reconcile your transactions again to fix the issue.

For your guide, check out this article: How to Reconcile an Account in QuickBooks Online.

Beginning Balance

Hi Angelyn, thank you for your reply. The problem that I'm having is the beginning balance. It shows the incorrect amount and I am unable to change it. The amount shown is not in any of the chart of accounts.

Hello Teri, thank you for your reply. However, it looks like my entire message did not display. The problem that I'm having is with the beginning balance. I'm unable to change it. I've looked through my chart of accounts and it is not there.

Hey there, @Leslie49

Thanks for following up with us.

A beginning balance should match the beginning balance and date on your bank statements. Since yours isn't matching, you'll need to review the original opening balance. I've included the steps below to review the opening balance.

1. Go to the Accounting menu, then choose Chart of Accounts

2. Find the account on the list.

3. Hit View register

4. Look for the opening balance entry. It should have "Opening Balance Equity" in the Account column.

If you forgot to enter an opening balance, you can follow the instructions in How to enter an opening balance manually, so your accounts stay balanced.

If your opening balance is correct, I recommend checking out Fix beginning balance issues if you've reconciled the account in the past for more troubleshooting steps in resolving the beginning balance.
