BUG REPORT: Tags do not apply to Rules with Splits.

I'm here to share some information when tagging transactions, endertek.

The option to add bank rules to split transactions isn't available. Though, I have a workaround that you may want to consider.

We can add rules after splitting the transactions or we can use the Class Tracking feature. This way, you can record the expense or income by business segment.

I've added these references as your guide:

I'll be around if there's anything that I can help. Keep safe!

BUG REPORT: Tags do not apply to Rules with Splits.

Thanks for the reply. My version of QuickBooks for this business does not allow classes... but Tags can do essentially the same thing, so that is why I was trying.

Yes, I know that I can add the tag to the transaction after the entry in the ledger has been saved with the split.

Still though, this seems like a bug or oversight from the dev team, and I think a report should be registered with them.

See the attached. I am able to define a rule with a split and a tag. I understand the split items will not be individually tagged, but the transaction that is being split ought to be.

Also note, this is not only an issue with splits defined by rules. If after transaction import, I set a tag, and then split it... when I click the "Apply and Accept" button in the split window, the transaction level tag is lost. Please see other attached image.

If you have access to some internal bug report system, I hope this information will be helpful to the dev team.

I’ve got you covered, @endertek.

We appreciate you for sharing these details with screenshots on the Community page. I have some information to share with you also.

In QuickBooks Online, you have the option to select and set tags under the Banking page. However, this tag won’t be carried over in the transaction since the said feature is unavailable on individual items.

We acknowledge your opinion about this matter. The Community recognizes feedback and suggestions from customers like you to help improve our product. I'll also take note of this personally for you.

While we continue to make your experience with us better, I recommend visiting our QuickBooks Blog site to get the recent news and latest features updates.

Hi, I see that this issue still exists. Is there any hope for it being fixed in the future?

BUG REPORT: Tags do not apply to Rules with Splits.

Hello, @tabs21.

While we do not have a specific timeline for when the applying tags to bank rules with splits will be available, please rest assured that we'll take it to our product development team to actively work on adding this function in future updates.

For now, I recommend sending feedback to our product engineers within your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account to consider adding this function in the future. Here's how:

  1. In your QBO account, go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.

I'm also adding this resource to help you with other QBO-related concerns: Self-help articles.

We're always here in the Community should you have further questions or concerns about splitting transactions in QBO. We'll do our best to assist. Take care.
