Can I install my Quickbooks Premier on my new laptop to work on away from the office? If changes are made to the company file separately, how do I sync them back up to save all changes?

We use a separate software to create customer, vendor files and invoices which needs access to our Quickbooks Company file on our network.  I want to be able to work from home on my new laptop.  Can I install Quickbooks Premier and copy our company file onto my laptop under one user since I'm the only one using the program?  If so, when changes are made to the company file (whether at the office or on the laptop file) how do I sync them back up and keep all changes so the file stays current?

Yes, the EULA allows you, as THE registered user, to install the program on a second computer, e.g. office desktop, home laptop.

How to sync the files? Well, first off, only open company file in one computer at a time, use backup/restore to update between installed company data.

Another option is to pay for your company file to be hosted (or self-host) and use multi-user access for your file.

A finanl option, that costs the least and does NOT require a second install of software is to use a remote desktop application, with the office computer always on and internet connected - you work on your internet connected laptop  (or internet connected tablet or phone) as if you were at your office desk. Nominal monthly charge but you never have to worry about syncing. There are several products out there - I have successfully used Splashtop and accessed my desktop QB install from a first generation ipad

The Quickbooks Company File has to be open and running at the office for the other program to update customer info and invoices.  A cloud-based hosting company will not work for this reason because both software programs need to update each other throughout the day via our network.

I can not do a remote desktop option (though I know that would be easiest) because the office desktop is being used by someone else a lot of the time.

I would be working on most accounting stuff with Quickbooks at home.  Can I sync the files when I get back to the office and keep all changes?

Hi, @frogteam.

Allow me to help share some information about syncing files from your laptop to your office desktop.

I agree that it's a lot easier if you could do a remote desktop option or use the multi-user setup. However, since you'll be working with QuickBooks at home, you can only create a backup and restore it on the laptop. Any transactions you created will not sync on the office desktop, so you'll need to manually transfer them.
