I was hosed into a "subscription" for Desktop Pro Plus 2024 and cannot go back and reenter all my data into 2021 version because I need to have the payroll side of things. That said, I do still have the QB 2021 version strickly for a "checkbook" for a small buisness that does not need online support and wants only checkbook style reporting (checkbook, invoice, receipt, depoists). It still works!
When is your renewal date this year? Do you also have an Enhanced Payroll subscription?
My renewal is in October. I do have payroll as well for my main business. I actually have two desktop copies of QB. QB desktop Pro Plus 2024 for the main business, and QB Desktop Pro 2021 for the "checkbook" business.
I'm still pretty confident they'll release QB Desktop 2027 Enterprise this year, but not for Pro/Premier/Mac editions. I'm still wondering what their policy will be for licenses that need to be renewed after May 31, 2026. If your license is due for renewal in October, will they still support it until May next year at full price or on a proportional basis? We'll just have to wait and see.
I have QB already but didn't renew.....lost access to my accounts in the system....how to do I set up view only to my accounts?
What year version? You can use the trial version of QB Desktop Enterprise to access your historical data for good.
Please note that you don't need to set up anything to access the view-only feature in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This feature becomes available automatically once your subscription expires or is canceled.
View-only access remains active for one year after your subscription ends. During this time, you'll not be able to edit your data with your inactive license. To continue viewing your data after one year, you'll need to renew your subscription.
View-only mode is available in:
You can view reports, but you can't create any transactions. To learn more about the restrictions while working in view-only mode, please visit the article: Use view-only mode in QuickBooks Desktop.
Alternatively, you can utilize the trial version of QBDT Enterprise, as mentioned by SIAB, to access your historical data.

You're right. QuickBooks is totally gouging users and it sucks! I'm in the middle of retiring and to have to pay $1,600 to renew for 1 year is insane! I've used Q.B. since 1996. I'm no longer recommending them. The on-line version, which I tried twice is the worst!
This is not true - my Desktop Pro 24 expired in April 2026 and I can not access the view only option. When trying to log in a message appears that "my year for view only has expired" and of course it has not. I have posted about this yesterday and am hopeful someone can give me correct information regarding this. I was told by Intuit that this is a "problem" they are working on this and will contact me - heard nothing ! Does anyone have advice on how to get this corrected ? Talking to Intuit seems to be getting me nowhere since they claim this is a problem they are working on??? Anyone know about this supposed "problem" ????
Still hoping someone has information on WHY the message stating my "one year view only status has expired" when it has not?? In essence it has just begun! I should have the one year access now for one year and I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem as well??
They tried to get me for over 3800$
This is BS, I paid about 2k last year and about 1700k the price before for one QV version with P/R that I used for one company with 4 employees
Because I refused the 3800k I am locked out of all my years?
Did you use QB Desktop Enterprise? What year version?
Hello heavensenthorse - et al Were you able to transfer the check register and invoice data from your Desktop Enterprise 2024 to your 2021 version or did you have to reenter it all so it could be used. I also just need checkbook and invoice data and no longer need payroll etc that was in the 2024 version. Is it possible to only upload the current check register and invoicing information from Enterprise Desktop 2024 to my Desktop 2021 to at least have a base line to continue register inputting with the 2021 version??? BUT I have been told that I can not upload the entire company file from Enterprise Desktop 2024 data into 2021 version BUT is it possible to upload the check register and invoices file from 2024 version to 2021 version?? If anyone can advise would greatly appreciate it!
In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you cannot directly import data from a newer version into an older one because data files updated in a newer version are not backwards-compatible.
To elaborate, you can export invoice data as a report to Excel/CSV from QBDT 2024, but re-importing that data into QBDT 2021 as live transactions isn't a native feature. You may consider using a third-party application to assist with this process.
On the other hand, the check register is part of the full company file. You can export it as a report or Excel file for reference, but it cannot be imported as live data into an older version. As a result, you can only manually enter the data into the 2021 version.
Let us know if you have additional questions about the software by replying to this thread.
You can export your data to QB Online as the first step. Then export it back to QB Desktop 2021. Another option, you can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 to access your historical data for good.
