Can I use multiple names for the same customer

I have customer entries with different names due to differences in entries (e.g. John Doe and Doe, John) that I would like to treat as one customer.  I don't want to merge these customers, although I could.  Is there a way to link these customers, so that their entries and transactions show up together in reports.

We can add the other customer as Job to the other one, lsrothstein24.

This way, all their transactions will be combined. I'll show you how:

  1. From the Customers menu, select Customer Center.
  2. Right-click the parent customer.
  3. Select Add Job.
  4. In the JOB NAME field, enter the one whom to be added as a job.
  5. Click OK.

All the transactions will also be reflected in the parent customer's profile. Let me show you how:

I'll use the Customer Balance Detail report as an example.

  1. I'll click the Reports menu.
  2. Select Customers & Receivables, and then Customer Balance Detail.
  3. Click the Customize Report button.
  4. I'll go to the Filters tab, and I select Name.
  5. In the All names drop-down, I select the name of the parent customer.
  6. Click OK.

There you have it. I'm just around if you still need help!

And if you wanted to, you could create a new parent customer specifically to pull those together.  So if you have John, John Doe, and Mr. Doe all as customers, you could create a customer named "Mr. John Doe Parent" then pull the rest in as jobs under that.  Or you could merge them all together but if you wanted to leave them separate but still have the ability to see them all combined then I'd just create a parent account for that purpose.

Thank you - but I don't see how to add more than one Job at a time.  Can you help with this?

Thanks for getting back to us, @lsrothstein24.

You will need to enter jobs one at a time. Here's how to create a new job in QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Go to Customers, then Customer Center.
  2. Select the name of the customer for whom you want to make a job from the “Customers & Jobs” list.
  3. Click the New Customer & Job button in the upper-left corner of the Customer Center.
  4. Then choose the Add Job option from the drop-down to open the "New Job" window.
  5. Fill out the details of the job, then click the OK button to add the job to the “Customers & Jobs” list.

That's it! Let me know if you have any other questions by hitting that Reply button below. I'm here to help. Have a good one!
