I appreciate you for coming back to the Community, Wendy911.

Allow me to provide additional details about the error report.

As my colleague has shared, this error is due to the limitations of QuickBooks Online (QBO) running on a web-based platform. Where QBO can show 50,000 cells with 7000 rows.

At this time, we'll have to export it to Excel to make sure you'll get all the needed data.

You can always go back to the article provided by my colleague above for further guidance.

I'll make sure to pass along your experience. Our engineers make improvements in QuickBooks Online by listening to our customers' suggestions and comments.

Thanks a lot for raising this concern. I'd appreciate if you can update me on how it goes. I'll be here if there's anything else you need. Have a good one.

Hi there, @Wendy911,

You've come to the right place. I can share some insights about the error you're getting when pulling up your previous year's General Ledger report.

You'll normally get this alert when a report exceeds the size limits applied to reports generated within the program. The best way to work around this is to pull up your data periodically then export them to Excel.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. From the For My Accountant section, click General Ledger.
  3. Set the date for the report period then select Run Report.
  4. Tap the Export icon, then choose Export to Excel.

You may want to refer to the following articles for details on how to export a large GL report to Excel:

How do I fix a report that is too large to display?

That should fix the error, @Wendy911. Please let me know how it goes by leaving a comment below. I want to make sure you're all set with your reports in QBO. Have a good one!

Yes, thanks, I know how to get the data using the workaround. I wanted to know why after 10 years I suddenly have too much data in a 12 month period. Intuit should NEVER let that happen for a report that is only one year. That is probably the most often requested time frame for a financial report. It's unacceptable.
