Can the Admin log a User out of a comany file?

Hello there, @victor5.

Yes, the QuickBooks Administrator can log out a user using the Close company file for users feature within QuickBooks Messenger.

  1. Launch QuickBooks Messenger (Company menu > Chat with a Coworker).
  2. From the Actions drop-down, select Close Company File for Users.
  3. Select the user whose QuickBooks you want to close.
  4. Select Close Company File.
  5. In the Confirmation window, select Yes.

Also, the Admin can force the user's account to log-off using the 'Switch to Single User' functionality from the QuickBooks newer versions.

Let me know how it goes. I'll be around to help if you have other questions in setting up your user’s access and restrictions in QuickBooks Desktop. Have a good one.

Can the Admin log a User out of a comany file?

I am able to log one user out but not a second. I've tried the above instructions but it does not let me. It tells me another user is still logged in even after I try to log them out. What do I do to be able to get into single user mode?

Hello @apierpont,

You'll want to consider manually turning off the multi-user hosting of your company data so you open and access it via single-user mode.

  1. Go to File.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Tap Host Multi-User Access.
  4. Toggle the confirmation to turn it off.

Here's an article you can read to learn more about multi-user hosting and access: Set up and install a multi-user network for QuickBooks Desktop.

I've got you this helpful article in case you'll bump into error upon accessing your company in multi-user mode: How to fix Error H202 and H505?

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section down below. I'll be always around ready to help.
