Can you open a backup copy of Quickbooks Pro 2016 with QB Premier Nonprofit Edition 2016?

I work for a nonprofit and have QB nonprofit edition. A smaller nonprofit wants me to look over their information to get them in order for a compilation. They have QB Pro of the same year. Can I open a backup of their file with my version?

Can you open a backup copy of Quickbooks Pro 2016 with QB Premier Nonprofit Edition 2016?

Hello there, @Anonymous.

Good to see you in the Community. I'd be happy to help share some information about restoring a QuickBooks Pro backup in QuickBooks Premier Nonprofit Edition.

Even you're using a different product, Pro company files may be opened in Premier, and vice versa without changing the data in the file. Let me show you how:

  1. From the File menu, select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Select Restore a backup copy, then click Next.
  3. Choose Local Backup, then click Next.
  4. From the Look In drop-down, choose the location of the backup file.
  5. Select the backup file from the folder.
  6. Select Open, then click Next.
  7. From the Save in drop-down, choose the location where you want to save the restored file.
  8. In the File name field, type a new file name. Please take note that the Save as type field will automatically populate QuickBooks Files (*.QBW).
  9. Select Save.

I've attached the following articles about backup in QuickBooks Desktop for more details:

Stay in touch if you have any other questions about restoring company file in QuickBooks. I'll be happy to help you out. Wishing you and your business success.
