Change plan from Essentials to Simple Start. Is it easy? No.

Simple hey? No way. it's pretty much false advertising. Got a spare 1-1/2 hours to make this change?  I signed up because I thought I would be able to downgrade my plan. Hey, even the online says Can I change my plan? You can move up and down between QuickBooks Online plans (Simple Start, Essentials and Plus) any time.

BUT, to do this you will have chosen Essentials for multi-currency. I WOULDN'T HAVE CHOSEN TO PAY FOR ESSENTIALS UNLESS I WAS GOING TO USE MULTI-CURRENCY. But when you try to switch from Essentials to Simple Start, you get THIS message. GRRRR.

BUT I WOULDN'T HAVE CHOSEN TO PAY FOR ESSENTIALS UNLESS I WAS GOING TO USE MULTI-CURRENCY.

So having spent 1-1/2 hours talking to call-centre Help person where I HAVE TO MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT IN SIMPLE START, and export files, make sure they are CSV then try and re-align the old and new csv categories, I have to say, this sucks.

So I want QBO to do this for me, and make it happen. Anytime. Like you advertise. I've made a copy of this for Consumer Affairs in Australia.

As far as I know, QBO SimpleStart doens't have the multi currency feature. You had the warning to turn the multi currency feature on. You don't have any choice but opening a new QBO account. As additional note, if your company is located in AU, you should open a QBO AU version.

Then you may explore this 3rd party payment service to deal with multi-currency transactions.

aaand, I complained very strongly to a Call centre supervisor. He stated "they are aware of this". I got a 30% discount, for 6 months. I told him thankyou, and they REALLY need to fix the problem of ACTUALLY being able to change plans.

Longer story. I told them I'd encountered and complained about this problem 4 months ago, and nothing had changed with the "sign up" information to warn that when you turn on Multi-currency, you will not be able to easily switch back to Simple Start.

He pointed out that when Multi-currency is turned on, a warning comes up. (as though this somehow excuses QBO from not being upfront in their Marketting info warning about this limitation). I pointed out (very strongly) that IT WAS TOO LATE, because I had already signed up to Essentials on the basis that I'd use multi-currency AND be able to shift to Simple Start "anytime". I also pointed out they have known about this for at least 4 months and have NOT changed their signup information to mention it. The GOLD solution is to to do all three. Be clear in how this limitation is communicated to potential customer BEFORE they sign up (!!!) , offer a discount until they fix it, AND fix the problem.

I have made a copy of this for Australia Consumer Affairs as well. I have wasted a total of 6 hours on this because of false advertising. I was not offered a credit for that loss.

It is my sincere hope that QBO Intuit as a multi-billion dollar company, fix their advertising quickly, and make it work as they want to be able to advertise it.

Fiat Lux,

the Australia Help section is closed. I was directed here.

See my response that crossed yours. The logic is, they advertise it, I pay, I expect to get it. Anything less is QBO's problem. They know about it! I know the problem well, and they have done nothing in 4 months to fix it. The warning when you switch multi-currency on DOES NOT COVER QBO against their false advertising. It is too late.

Wait, there's more. There is a related help item, https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/manage-users/downgrade-your-quickbooks-online-plan...

and on this topic, they say (!)

Learn more about multi-currency

QuickBooks Online Simple Start doesn’t have the multi-currency feature. If you currently use the multi-currency feature, you won’t be able to switch to QuickBooks Simple Start.

If you need help, reach out to our team .

Why does this happen? It was my own fault (!!) for using multi-currency in a transaction in the first place (!!) "Well there's ya problem!" Because you can't remove multi-currency.

It seems there is a built-in design flaw with the system that means it NEVER was possible to downgrade plans from Essential to Simple Start if you had used multi-currency.  So this makes the continued advertising of that as an available option, all the more agregious. Look it up.

Again, saved for Consumer Affairs Australia.
