Hello there, @StPaulInc. Thanks for reaching out to the Community.
I'm here to provide steps on how to turn on the preference to show account numbers in your Chart of Accounts.
The steps I've provided below is how you can set up your Chart of Accounts to show account numbers next to each account name:
- Go to Preferences, then Transactions.
- Mark the Use account numbers checkbox.
- (Optional) Mark the Show lowest subaccount only checkbox. This option shows you only the account you're working with when entering transactions.
If you 're needing to number your accounts, here's how:
- Go to Lists, then Chart of Accounts.
- Select the account name and click Edit at the bottom of the Chart of Accounts.
- In the Number field, enter the number of the account. You don't have to assign account numbers
to your Sales Tax Payable or Undeposited Funds accounts. QuickBooks assigns numbers to these
accounts automatically.
Here's a couple things to note:
- QuickBooks inserts the account number before the account name in the Chart of Accounts. The account number
also appears in Account fields, in reports that list the account, and on graphs.
- If you turn off account numbers, QuickBooks doesn't display numbers for accounts. However, it saves numbers
you already entered, and displays them if you turn the preference on again.
Let me know if this worked for you! I'm always here if you need anything else. Have a wonderful day.
