Customer Search suggestion list includes "inactive" records. Leads to uneditable page.

Hi, I'm encountering an error when trying to edit a Customer record. The Customer only appears in the suggestion list when I use the Search box on the main Customers page. The display name is similar (but barely different) to an active Customer (and the active Customer shows up too). When I click on the faulty suggestion it leads me to a page that immediately gives the error message "Something you're trying to use has been made inactive. Check the fields with accounts, customers, items, vendors or employees." This page contains no data or display name, and clicking Edit gives me a popup with the same error message. When I go back and change the Customer list settings to Include Inactive records it does not appear in the main list (not even when exported to Excel).

I've found several other posts here that share this error message but relate to payroll or other non-customer things. It's not only a single record that's a problem but quite a few that all act the same. Each of these Customer pages includes a nameId (https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/customerdetail?nameId=2340) but I'm not able to do anything with it. I can't even pull it using the API (ObjectNotFoundException). The only resulting issue is that they bloat our Customer Search suggestion list and cause confusion.

My company did import data from QB Desktop and they seem like old duplicate records we no longer use. Or maybe we did some kind of bulk renaming (I wasn't involved until now)? Can anyone help me get rid of these ghost/inactive Customers?

Hello there, RyanMosa.

This is not the kind of service we want you to experience.

I've checked and verified that we have an ongoing investigation when searching customers.

For now, if the customer scrolls down the customer list, they are able to get the correct one each time.

To make sure you'll get added to the list of affected users, I recommend contacting our support team. This way you'll get updates via email once the fix is available.

Please refer to this article for more information about editing customer's information: Edit a customer's credit card.

Let me know if you have questions about editing customer's information. I'm always here to help.
