How do i delete an unused company and transfer my subscription to another?

I set up a trial with Quickbooks online, and entered company information etc.  I then decided to sign up for a year at a discounted rate, but this has opened a second company which does not have any information on.  How do i transfer my subscription to the trial company, and delete the unused company?

Thank you

The only way to do that is to export it to desktop and import it to qbo.  But you would need the desktop program or know someone who does to do that.  You can also download it for free here in the conversion page and use that.

Let's do a wildcard search to find your current company file, Nasfan1.

Simply type one of the following into the search bar in the Start Menu. Make sure to include the asterisk (*) before the extension type to ensure the search works correctly.

  • *.qbw (Working Files)
  • *.qbb (Back Up Files)
  • *.qba (Accountants Copy Files)
  • *.qbx (Accountants Transfer Files)
  • *.qby (Accountants Change Files)

The default location for a company files is: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files

Please let me know if you're able to find your account after following these steps. Just leave a reply if you have questions.

I'm having the same issue. I accidentally created TWO companies and I need to delete the ONE I created in error. This is NOT THE DESKTOP version. This is QUICKBOOKS ONLINE. For the life of me, I cannot find a way to DELETE it. This is very frustrating...

Hi Lynda,

When you say download the info into QB desktop...I have a friend who downloaded the trial version of desktop (I think). Can it work on a trial desktop version?

I encountered the same problem as the user who asked the question.  I have an Essentials online trial subscription and I wanted to upgrade it but QB kept giving an error message.  I then went to pay for the Plus package and it opened a new business, which I dont want.

Hello, eazymaids.

Thanks for stopping by, yes it will work if you have the trial version from the download link provided in the "solved answer" at the top of the post, I'll also include it here as well. As far as the error message you'r receiving when upgrading, can you be more specific, what is the error saying exactly? That way I can help you to the best of my ability.

I look forward to hearing from you, Thank you and have a lovely evening.

Hi Nick, the error message was Code 81622 (or something like that). I have decided to eventually cancel my Essentials subscription and just start afresh with the Plus subscription.  I'll take the Essentials as a trial run for me to practice entering items in QB, so no further help needed at this point.  Thanks.

Yes, exporting a QUICKBOOKS ONLINE company to desktop is possible, though difficult, and definitely NOT seamless.  The current procedure for this is as follows: Gear icon (upper right of screen), then under tools select Export Data. This brings up a screen asking you what reports and lists you want to export.

Currently, at the bottom of the list are two boxes: One box with info how to back up your data, and another with information about moving to Quickbooks desktop.  When you click the "learn more" link on the Quickbooks desktop link, it brings you to another page: this page shows two options: Export lists and balances, or download company data.

If you want to download company data, you can only do this using Internet Explorer 11.  (Yes,  they have made it so that you MUST  use an obsolete browser to do this as opposed to say, simply creating and making a desktop version Quickbooks  backup format zip file available for download.)  Fortunately it is still available for download from Microsoft as of  December 2020. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41628

Alternatively, you can look for an app in the Quickbooks app store in case there is one that might help you in this process by searching under "Export".  This is likely going to be trial and error until you  find one that  works.

So really, your only option if  you don't want to use a depreciated browser that will soon no longer be supported  by Microsoft, is to Export lists. This link explains that detailed process.

I set a trail account after one month free trial I am charged for a one year subscription . I decided to not use the account and now want to cancel it.

I can not sign in to the account and none of the help desks recommend a solution. They just pass the answer to each other

Thanks for visiting the Community today, @Hosmoh.

I'm here to help you get the right tools for you to cancel your subscription.

Since you're unable to sign to your accounts, let's perform some basic troubleshooting steps to fix it.

Too much cache accumulated in your browser might cause this issue. This can be the reason why you're getting this unexpected behavior.

Let's clear this out by signing in in a private window. This will help us determine if it is cache-related. Simply press the following keyboard shortcut keys to access this mode:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

If you're able to log in, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. You can also use another supported browser to sign in. This could be a temporary issue with QuickBooks and the current browser that you use.

If you're still getting the same result, use the I forgot my user ID or Password tool to reset it. This will help you get an email request to recover your account and sign in back.

Once the issue is fixed, you can now follow the steps in this link to cancel your subscription: How to manage or cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription.

I've also added this link here to guide you along the way: What happens to my QuickBooks Online data after I cancel?

Please know that you're always welcome to post in this thread anytime if you still have questions or concerns with your account. Just drop them in the reply section and I'll jump in as soon as possible. Take care and stay safe.
