Did a desktop file originate from an online version of quickbooks?

Is there a way to tell if a desktop file of quickbooks originated from quickbooks online?  In other words, I am trying to tell if client file they sent which is a desktop version is based on a quickbooks online file.

Is there anything that I can do to tell?

Hi there, michael2779.

There is no indication if the data originated from QuickBooks Online. However, you can see where the data was imported from a journal entry.

You can check these links to give you more information:

Let me know if you need further assistance. Take care.

MarsStephanieL,

Thanks.  Could you further describe what you mean by "you can see where the data was imported from a journal entry."

Thanks again.

Hello @michael2779,

What my colleague was referring to are the payroll transactions. Migrated payroll data is generated as journal entries in your reports. Other than that, we're unable to identify if the file is from QuickBooks Online.

Let me help you check a quick report.

  1. Go to Reports, then Company & Financial, then Profit & Loss Standard.
  2. Scroll down towards the Payroll Expenses account and double-clicked the amount.
  3. You'll see journal entries instead of paychecks if migrated from QBO.
