Difficulty viewing previous reconciliation report PDF.

I am using QBD Enterprise 17.0 and I am getting an error message that says "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (523:523) " when I try to view my previous bank reconciliation

I get this error when Adobe is not running. I have tried restarting my computer, I have ended all tasks associated with Adobe using task manager, and both QuickBooks and Adobe are up to date. I have run the Repair Installation process on adobe, then repeated the above steps and I still get the same error. 

It may well be an issue with Adobe, but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this issue and knew how to fix it.

You did a great job doing the possible solutions and ensuring both programs are up-to-date. I have another step we can try to resolve this. 

Adobe's Protected Mode feature might be enabled in its settings. It provides an added layer of security when viewing PDF documents. Though, this may prevent you from viewing them from other software such as QuickBooks Desktop. 

We can try disabling it to see if this is preventing you from viewing the reconciliation report. Here's how:

  1. Open Adobe Reader.
  2. Go to Edit, and then select Preferences.
  3. Go to the Categories list, and then select Security (Enhanced)
  4. In the Sandbox Protections section, uncheck Enable Protected Mode At Startup.
  5. Once done, restart your computer.

After booting up the computer, you can try viewing the report again to see if we resolved the issue. If you need help configuring the settings, I'd suggest reaching out to an IT expert.

It looks like Adobe was not set to run in protected mode. I have gotten the report to run once immediately after rebooting when quick books is the only program I have opened. After I viewed one report, however, I was not able to open a second and I haven't been able to repeat this since then.

2. Select QuickBooks Desktop as the product, and then select your version.
3. Select Solving Issues & Error Messages, and then click on Common Errors.

I have a very clunky work around that works for me in a similar scenario. When I get an error like what you are describing, I get two windows that are blacked out and the error is displayed. If I close the error boxes and NOT the blacked out windows and try to rerun the previous reconciliation reports it will display the reports just fine. If you close down the blacked out windows you will get the same error messages and new blacked out windows. This is not a solution but a workaround.

This suggestion didn't work for me, but I also unchecked Security (Enhanced) > Enable Enhanced Security  which seems to have corrected the problem.

There is currently two options, one of which gets the black box, and the other which actually works!

 

In 'Select Previous Reconciliation Report' popup.

 

In this report, include:

Autoselected & error prone: Transactions cleared at the time of reconciliation (Report is displayed as a PDF file) 

Instead select: Transactions cleared plus any changes made to those transactions since the reconciliation.

James, I just started getting this message last week?  I have repaired, then uninstalled, then re-installed QuickBooks 2021.  I have repaired Acrobat Reader DC and Adobe Acrobat DC.  I have gone into Acrobat Reader and unclicked the Enable Protected Mode At Startup.  I have rebooted.  I have even tried the go around with the black screen thingy that is in this thread.  I can't think of anything else to try.  My error code is 10:10, but that doesn't seem to matter.  Since this thread started in 2018, I was wondering if there has been a resolution yet.

Let me add a couple of solutions to help fix the Adobe error, Rita777.

 

Disabling the Adobe protected mode help other in getting rid of the error. Since it doesn't work on your end, you can check with Adobe if they're updating their software.

 

If so, make sure to update the software to its latest release version. Check the Adobe website for detailed instructions.

 

If you've updated to the latest version of Adobe Reader/Acrobat and it hasn’t fixed the problem, you'll need to repair your Adobe installation.

 

  1. Close Acrobat/Reader and all open web browser windows.
  2. Select the Start button at the bottom left of your screen.
  3. Type Control Panel, then press Enter.
  4. Click Programs and Features.
  5. Select Acrobat or Adobe Reader, then Uninstall/Change.
  6. On the Setup dialog box, select Next.
  7. Select Repair, then Next.
  8. Select Install.
  9. When the process is complete, select Finish.

 

Restart your computer for changes to take effect. Then, open again the reconciliation report.

 

If repairing Adobe Reader doesn't fix the problem, it may be necessary to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Reader.

 

If you're still getting the error after performing those steps I've provided above, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Live Team. They can create a case to isolate the issue.

If you continue to get the error after disabling sandbox security preferences in Adobe, I'd recommend reaching out to our support. This way, they can further investigate why you're unable to view previous reconciliation reports. 

 

Here's how:

  1. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help from the Help menu.
  2. Click Contact Us.

Since the issue persists after performing those, I highly suggest contacting our Phone Support team. They're able to check your account using their screen-sharing (remote access) tool and investigate this further. They can also try other troubleshooting steps to fix this for you.

I have tried reaching out to support and they refuse to acknowledge it is a QuickBooks issue.  I waited over an hour for help and all they did was waste my time!

Thank you!!! This is the only thing that worked for me. Too bad since I really don't like the added transactions on my reports. Guess I need to start printing them all at the time of reconciliation in the off chance I need them.

Thanks, ControllerofThings.  This is the only thing that works for me.  I am running both Desktop 2020 AND 2021 for various clients, so don't hold your breath that this will get fixed. 

 

Note that the other, default, choice to open a previous reconciliation, "Transactions cleared at the time of reconciliation." also says, "(Report is displayed as a PDF file.)"  So it's the interface with Adobe that is the problem.  I have the same issue trying to open PDFs of various payroll reports that have been saved.

We are also experiencing this issue in all versions of QuickBooks & have tried all troubleshooting steps suggested below to no avail. Any updates from Intuit on this issue? @LeizylM @MaryLandT @LieraMarie_A @Joesem M
