Does anyone else feel there is an issue with the ProAdvisor recertification exam scoring? I failed 3 times and received feedback other experienced accountants have too.

Hi there, lorimurray.

Thank you for posting here in the QuickBooks Community.

We haven't received any reports about issues on ProAdvisor recertification exam scoring.

You can take the exam up to three attempts to pass the whole exam. If you do not pass in the first three attempts, you are locked out for 2 months When the 2 months are up, you can take the certification exam again.

Here are some articles to help you pass the ProAdvisor Certification exam:

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help you about the ProAdvisor Certification.

Thanks ChristieAnn!

I work in QBO every day, all day and just cannot imagine how I failed the test 3 times. I am now locked out until after my certification expires.

I am on many Accounting/Bookkeeping forums and this has been a very hot topic of discussion. Most discussions are that no one had an issue with initial certification, but many have now failed the recert 3 times and are locked out. Besides not understanding how I could fail this 3 times, I think 60 days is excessive to retry.

After all of the discussions I have seen, I am not comfortable with the grading of this assessment.

Hello @lorimurray,

This isn't the type of service we want you to experience and I personally want to address your concern with the ProAdvisor Certification Examination and Scoring.

But we have a separate team who can better discuss and explain the components of your certification examination. Thus, I'd recommend contacting our ProAdvisor Support.

From there, they'll explain further and share all details about your certification examination and how you are being rated to come up such scores.

That being said, here's an article you can read to learn more and how you can contact our dedicated team: ProAdvisor Support.

Lastly, you can also read this article which can be your guide for any future tasks:

It'll be always my pleasure to help if you have any other questions. I'll be keeping an eye for your response.

I am also frustrated because I got a list of 6 topics related to what I got wrong in section 1 the first time.  I tried to match the topics to the question because I cannot tell what I got wrong.  I then researched the system to find my errors.  Within a few hours I found 6 answers that I could change and took the test a 2nd time.  Then I failed again, this time with 7 topics.  I am afraid to take the exam again and be locked out for 60 days.  Is there a way to find out which ones I missed?  Seems like the grading must be wrong somehow.

Hi ExamTaker,

I appreciate you sharing your experience with us here in the QuickBooks Community. At this time, you are unable to review which answers you got wrong when taking the re-certification exam, but it does tell which section or module you need to review.

You can join the upcoming Certification Bootcamp on June 26-27 to get certified.

Additionally, you can also reserve your place for our Advanced Re-certification webinars through this link: Training Events.

Please let me know in the comment section if you have any questions. I'll do everything I can to answer them. Take care.

I can certainly agree with your point. I feel the test questions are more open-ended than normal and could be interpreted more than one way.  I do understand that these questions require a different level of analysis and attention to detail is critical, but my goodness.

I successfully managed to pass the first two sections but  I have failed module 3 a total of 4 times now (2nd go-around after 60 day wait). The CPE practice exam for that exam also kicked my butt. At this point, my undergraduate and Master's degrees are but meaningless pieces of paper to me! I have 2 attempts left and am not really sure what I can do differently to prepare.

I do always have a technical issue with submitting exam (module 3 in particular) and am always greeted with a "page not found" error or something along those lines. I have to navigate back to qbo.intuit.com and re-sign in with my credentials. Limited to just 1 tab in Google Chrome. The fact that the suggested topics of review for me are always the same and contains every topic in the module, leading me to believe that I am getting 0 answers correct.

Either way, nothing but love for Intuit!

I agree! When it gave me items to review, it was everything! I am in a few bookkeeping/accounting groups online and have received the same feedback. I also feel 60 days is excessive to wait.

I have had similar experiences. I took and passed the first two sections with no issues, and have taken the third section six times and failed them all. Something is just not right. To top it off, QB sent out an email on July 10th to me indicating the exam would be unlocked within 72 hours to help ProAdvisors recertify before the deadline. I have spent well over two hours with chat reps, etc and I am still locked. I have also sent two emails to the special 'team' that is suppose to fix it. Nothing! I am thoroughly frustrated right now.

I am in a few bookkeeping Facebook groups and we're having the same conversation. One guy got the email and had his unlocked, but mine is still locked. Even people that said they flatout cheated failed.

Also, if you want to share the email and/or phone number you are using to reach the Intuit team, I would be happy to reach out to them as well.

I have several emails I am using but no replies. I did get an email from the last rep I talked to that said there were 'no guarantees' that they would unlock my exam since I had to wait the 60 days and that would put me over the time limit. I replied and told her the email from Intuit was my guarantee and it was disturbing that I don't get a straight answer from anyone. She gave me this one, accountant_training (at intuit), but I have also been emailing another one that was indicated on the QB website and that was accountants at e.intuit. The system keeps omitting the emails, so I am trying to include them without the email symbols to see if it works. Understood that the dot com is at the end. It's like I am talking a completely different language to these reps and every time I get on a chat I have to provide the same info that should be in notes from previous conversations. I am completely frustrated with Intuit at the moment.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I whizzed through the first 2 sections. I went through the training for the 3rd, passed the in-training questions, passed the CPE questions, and then bombed on the test. Very ambiguous questions that don't have anything to do with actually getting the job done.

Welcome back to the Online Community, @claudette16.

We want what’s best for our clients. However, the option to view which part of the exam you made a mistake is unavailable at this time.

If you fail to pass a section of the test, you’ll have to retake it. Depending on the type of assessment, there’s a specific number of attempts to try again. To check the complete details, please see the table in the Available Trainings section.

I know that having the ability to see which questions you’ve failed is an important feature. On your behalf, I’ll send feedback straight to our Product Development Team for consideration in a future update.

For more in-depth information about the program changes and ProAdvisor Certification, check out this article: QuickBooks Online Advanced Certification.

I'm finding that the feedback that I do get back appears to be incorrect. I got a bunch wrong the first time - my own fault, I was thinking that the 2nd time through I would just get the questions that I got wrong, not the entire section. So after the first time through, I had a pretty long list of things to look over. But, after looking at the list and going through training materials again, I got the exact same list again, even though I know that many of the items from the first try have been corrected. The feedback list never changes, the questions are vague and ambiguous so it's difficult to know what to change.

I definitely feel there is a problem with the scoring of the ProAdvisor recertification exam. I failed Module 1 three times in May. I have taken the boot camp three times now. I waited my 60 days and recently took Module 1 exam again only to fail a fourth time. The original certification was easier. I'm at the point of giving up entiirely until I see these other posts. Now I don't feel quite so dumb. I have never had this much difficulty with any exam in my life. Will I be locked out another 60 days if I fail my fifth and sixth attempts???

Hello there, @calbr3y3.

Taking the QuickBooks ProAdvisor Certification multiple times isn't the kind of experience I want for you.

Depending on the assessment you’re taking, there’s a set number of attempts available to answer it. You’ll find the complete details by going to the Available Training section of your account.

Once you go beyond the allowed attempts, you’ll be locked out for 60 days. When the period is over, you can take the certification exam again.

For more information about the changes for ProAdvisor Certification, such as the training available, certification process,  the number of attempts to retake the exam, etc, check out this article: ProAdvisor Certification.

Thank you! Yes, I have been through the links, I know that I have failed 3 times and I have been locked for 60 days. This has been an extremely frustrating time as I have never failed on a certification before and now I have failed 3 times and cannot get back in until mid August now. There has been so much discussion on this I feel there has to be a glitch in the testing system somewhere. I have spent so much time taking the test and discussing this issue that should have been time spent making money by working for my clients. I really don't feel QB has our backs on this one as I have seen so many complaints with random willingness to allow people additional chances and denial to others, including me. I take pride in being a ProAdvisor and don't feel this recertification is anything to help ProAdvisors. I honestly don't care how many points I get for signing clients up, I just want to be able to do the work without this frustration.

Hi, @lorimurray.

I understand it can get frustrating to have your issues at repeated occurrences. And this isn't the kind of experience we want you to experience when taking the QuickBooks ProAdvisor Certification.

Finding new ways to adapt to our customers’ needs is how QuickBooks gets even better. I'm preparing a feedback submission to our Product Development Team right now. They place a lot of value in the ideas provided by users, like yourself, when deciding on how best to improve QuickBooks.

Please know that you're always welcome to post if you have any other concern. Have a good one.

Thank you @JanyRoseB for submitting the feedback. I am on multiple bookkeeping forums and this is an extremely hot topic right now! It is strange that some people will immediately get their tries reset, yet I called and they would not do that for me, I have to wait 60 days. I am currently on a forum that someone has had their tries reset immediately 3 times, failed all 9 initial times and are now going into their 10+ attempts. This material honestly is not that hard, there aren't that many questions. I just don't feel QB is hearing us and looking into this issue seriously.

Yes, I feel the same way! I work in QuickBooks every day and I was able to pass my original certification with no problem as well as my CPE certificate for these exact test sections! I also took the initial feedback to heart and dug in and researched to ensure I understood and still was not able to pass! Also, my feedback kept getting longer and longer...I'm really very confused at the moment and a little worried about my clients' subscriptions.

Re: Thank you! Yes, I have been through the links, I know tha...

I also think it's very harsh to suspend our access if we aren't able to pass the exams. Many of us have degrees in Accounting and related areas and to be penalized because we can't seem to answer a question about whether we should go to the "Gear" or through another method is pretty crazy. That's what google searches and help forums are for. Give me questions on standard Accounting procedures and require us to pass those, that's fair!
