how do I export my data on my QB enterprise solutions desktop to QB online?

I'm here to ensure you're able to export your QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise solutions to QuickBooks Online (QBO), bdc6072. This way, you can start managing your business using the online platform.

You'll have to prepare your QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise company file. Then, make sure it meets the size (MB) requirement of less than 350,000 target.

Before we start, here are the lists of reminders when exporting your Enterprise solutions to QBO:

  • You can only move a company file within 60 days after signing up to QBO.
  • Move your list instead of your company file if you already set up payroll in QBO.
  • Please note that some of your lists and reports won't be concerted because of feature differences.
  • If you're using advanced features in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise, we recommend starting fresh because some of your data won't be converted. Please note that only QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced can track inventory. Both plans use the FIFO method.
  • If you'll be keeping the advanced features, learn about cloud-enabled QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. Or switch to QuickBooks Online Advanced instead, which has powerful tools like smart reporting and accelerated invoicing.

Once your desktop file is ready, let's now import it to QBO. Here's how:

  1. Log in as an admin to the company file you want to import.
  2. Press Ctrl+1 key to open the Product Information window.
  3. Press Ctrl+B+Q, then select OK.
  4. On the export window, select Start your export.
  5. Sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online company.
  6. If you track inventory in QuickBooks Desktop, select Yes to bring them over, then specify the as of date. Select No if you want to set up new items later in QuickBooks Online.
  7. Select the Choose online company drop-down, then choose the QBO company you want to be replaced by your company file.
  8. Click Continue.
  9. Enter “Agree” in the text field, then select Replace.
  10. Select Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then select Replace.

After importing, you'll have to run your financial report (Profit and Loss) on accrual basis both in QuickBooks Desktop and QBO. This is to check if the process is successful.

If your reports match, you can now get started with QBO. If they don't match, you'll have to review this guide to check what happens to your data: What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.

Hello, what do you mean by "starting fresh" - are you saying that we should not import the historical information from Quickbooks Enterpise?

Hey there, @tbutler0614.

I believe @Rea_M was referring to if you have Enterprise only features, (like advanced inventory, advanced pricing, etc.) your data may not be imported the way you want. So, it may be easier to start your file with only balances so it's clearer to import.
