How do I remove 'Sales of Product' category in P&L report, it has an amount that is already included in our consulting income. How do I fix?

I already reconciled so I'm concerned this will cause additonal issues. I didn't see the Sales of Product category when I was reviewing transactions because we don't sell items we provide consulting services only. The Sales of Prouct amount is in the amount of an ATM  deposit I made of 3 customer payments. These amounts are captured under the consulting income already. How do I fix this? Thanks for your help!!

Welcome aboard to the Online Community. Based on the details provided, it looks like the deposits were recorded twice in your account.


To rectify the issue, let’s undo the reconciliation and then delete the other deposit. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu on the left panel and choose Chart of Accounts to view the list of accounts.
  2. From there, select the bank/credit card you’re working and then select the View register link under the Action column.
  3. Find the entry and repeatedly click the box under the ✓ column to clear it.

  4. Perform the same process to undo all reconciled transactions.


Next, run the Deposit Detail Report to find the duplicate entry. I have a few easy steps to open it.

 

  1. Navigate to the Reports menu on the left panel and type in Deposit Detail in the Search field.
  2. When the report opens, click the Report period drop-down to choose the correct date.
  3. Once done, hit the Run report button.
  4. From there, click on the duplicate entry to view the complete details
  5. On the Bank Deposit page, scroll down to the button of the page and tap More to choose Delete.
  6. Click Yes once you see the Are you sure you want to delete this pop-up.

Since the account is already reconciled, you can consider consulting with an accountant. This is to ensure your books are in tiptop shape.


After performing the following resolution, you can start reconciling the account.

This solution fixed the double deposit, but the original question was how to remove the category.  My question is the same - How to remove accounts for Sales and Sales of Product.

When using categories in QuickBooks Online, you can remove one if necessary.
 

Here's how:
1. In the left navigation bar, go to Sales, then Products & Services.2. Click the More ▼ drop-down menu and choose Manage categories.
3. Under your Action column, use the Edit option.
4. Hit Remove.
5. Select OK.


After the category is removed, you can rerun your profit and loss report. It will no longer show the Sales of Product information.
