How do I view more than 20 companies in "File, Open previous companies" in QB desktop pro?

This feature offer to "set number of previous companies" and it maxes out at 20.  I run more than 20 companies.  What do I do?

Hi, Elite Property.

Good to see you here in the QuickBooks Community. Allow me to help provide some insights about opening a previous company file.

QuickBooks can only set 20 list companies that you've previously opened. Currently, there isn't a way to add another company once you've exceeded the limit as of this moment.

In additional, if you want to remove a company file from the list but you don't want to permanently delete the file you can edit the companies that QuickBooks displays on startup. Here's how:

  1. From the File menu, choose Open or Restore Company.
  2. Choose Open a Company file and click Next. A window with all available company files will open.
  3. Click on Edit List, located under the Open button. An Edit Company list window will open.
  4. Click OK to hide the company.

For future reference, you may want to check these articles about company file:

Thanks very much for the reply!  I will very soon be working with over 20 companies on a daily basis.  I still need to know how I can easily open a previous company that is not on the displayed list.

Thanks for getting back to us, Elite Property.

Allow me to take over and help you open the previous company file that's not in the displayed list in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can follow the step-by-step process below on how you can easily open the previous company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Here's how:

  1. Click File at the top menu bar.
  2. On the drop-down list, click Open Previous Company.
  3. Choose the company file you need to open.

RE: I will very soon be working with over 20 companies on a daily basis. I still need to know how I can easily open a previous company that is not on the displayed list.

Two ways:

- Click the Open or restore and existing company button on the No Company Open thing that sits on the desktop when no company is open.

- Pick File | Open or Restore Company from the QB menu.

...then click Next and click on the company to open it.
