I am retiring treasurer and need to change my user type to stabdard user and my sucessor from administrator to MASTERadministrator and what sequence is it done?

I'm here to walk you through the process of achieving your task, cawillson100.

To start, let's transfer the master admin role to your successor. If you’re using QuickBooks Online Simple Start, contact us to transfer the role.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and then select Manage users.
  2. Find the user you want to make the master admin.
  3. In the Role column, make sure they are listed as Admin.
  4. Select the small arrow ▼ in the Action section. Then, select Make master admin.
  5. For security, we send a verification code to your phone number or email on file.
  6. Once you receive the code, enter it and then select Continue.
  7. Select Make master admin again to confirm the change.
  8. Sign out of QuickBooks.

When your successor receives the invitation email, ask them to click the link and accept the invitation to be the master admin.

After accepting the role, you can ask the new master admin to change your access to a standard user.

  1. Ask the master admin to sign in to QuickBooks.
  2. Go to the Gear icon and then select Manage users.
  3. Locate your name in the list of users, then select Edit.
  4. In the User type drop-down menu, select Standard user.
  5. Select the user settings, if applicable.
  6. Once done, click on Save.

I am retiring treasurer and need to change my user type to stabdard user and my sucessor from administrator to MASTERadministrator and what sequence is it done?

  1. I am trying to transfer master admin to another admin user in QBO Plus
  2.
  3. Select the small arrow ▼ in the Action section. Then, select Make master admin.

When I click the edit drop down arrow this option is not available for the admin user listed.

How do I transfer it?

It's my pleasure to help you transfer the master admin role to another user, @parksbarbie.

To start, make sure to log in to your account as a master admin. Then, in the Role column, make sure they are listed as Admin. If they’re not, select Edit to change their role to admin

If the same things happen, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this. There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed pages, thus causing some unusual responses. Let's log in to your account using a private browser. This mode will not save any history, making it a great place to identify browser issues.

Access your QBO account in a private/incognito browser. You may use these shortcut keys that I've listed below:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: press Command Shift N

Then, try to transfer the master admin role. If it shows, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete stored site data and improve the system performance. Also, you can use other supported browsers. It could be that the one you're currently working on has a temporary problem with QuickBooks.

I've also added this article to help you manage users in QuickBooks Online: Add and delete the user profile.

Please know that you're always welcome to post if you have any other concerns. Wishing you and your business continued success.

I have tried this on 3 different browsers and it does not give me an option on the other 2 users to change to master admin- only admin, repports only or standard user. It will not let me delete my master admin account. How do I transfer this?

I'm here to make sure you can transfer the master admin rights, @parksbarbie.

Are you signed as master admin? You'll have to log in as the current master admin so you can see the option to transfer the master admin role. If you can’t sign in, you can recover your user ID or password

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Manage Users.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow in the Action column and choose Make master admin.
    Capture.PNG
  4. Select Make master admin on the pop-up that appears.
  5. An invitation email will then be sent to the user to accept the role.

It only shows view user activity and delete on the ADmin drop down. I am signed in with my user ID I always use to access the company. Is there a different way to sign on as master admin?

Hello @parksbarbie,

Let me help share a few instances which can be the reason why you're unable to change the Master Admin access and role.

To start with, is the account in question billed under your accountant, or have you receive it given by your them? If yes, you can contact your accountant and let them change the master admin of the account on file.

If no, you can use this link for guidance in preparing the documents needed to claim the role: Request to be the master admin or primary contact.

On top of that, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Account Management for QuickBooks Online.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.
