I am using self employed quick books. I am entering my income and it keeps showing up as an expense with a negative sign. I am manually adding it correctly, so I'm not sure what the problem is

Let's try entering a transaction on an incognito window, bethvansyckle-gm.

It is where we can confirm if the error is cause by a browser-related issue. I've added these keyboard keys to open one:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Shift N

If it works, we can go back to a regular browser and clear the cache. Once cache is piled up, it can be the reason for some unexpected browser issues.

We also have the option to switch to a different browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge as an alternative.

Afterward, you can categorize the items. Here's a reference as your guide: Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Feel free to get in touch with as to how these steps work on your end. Keep safe!

This did not help at all. Please advise of other options. This should not be so difficult to add my income into Quickbooks.

Glad to have you here in the Community, bethvansyckle-gm.

Let me help you with your concern.

Please make sure to use an income account in when you categorize your transaction.

It appears you are not understanding my question:

I am manually inputting a transaction with the category as income. It continues to be logged as an expense (with a negative sign). I have tried several ways to fix this to no avail.

I've read through your post, and I want to ensure this issue is taken care of, @bethvansyckle-gm

What you experience in your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) is weird, and it should be fixed by clearing the browser's cache. Since it doesn't help resolve the issue, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can further investigate this matter and provide additional troubleshooting steps to get this fixed. They can also create an investigation ticket if other users are experiencing the same. Here's how to contact our support team:

  1. In your QBSE account, click Assistant at the top right.
  2. Choose I need help, then select Not helpful and click Talk to a human.
  3. Select Still need a human and choose which one of the support options you'd like to use.

You can also check out this article for another way of reaching out to our support team and its support hours: Contact QuickBooks Self-Employed Support.
