QuickBooks Pro 2016 will not open files in multi-user

We just upgraded from QuickBooks Pro 2011 3-User to 2016.

The QB 2011 company file was opening fine in multi-user mode on our Windows Server 2012 and on the Windows 7 workstations.

Now after upgrading to QB 2016 we can only open the company file in single-user mode. It will not open from the workstations in multi-user mode.

I have opened the firewall ports, 8019, 56721-56727, 55343-55377 on the server to cover all versions of QB from 2011-2017.
I have shared the folder with the company data file with Everyone with Read/Write/FullControl permissions.
I have run the QuickBooks File Doctor utility on the company data file but it reported no errors.
I am running the QuickBooks Database Server Manager, and have scanned the folder with the company file. It is showing under the "Database Server" tab: "No files are connected."
I have renamed the company file .ND and .TLG files to .ND.OLD and .TLG.OLD and re-run the scan in QB DB ServerManager. No change.
I have verified that the services for QBCFMonitorService and QuickBooksDB26 are both set to Automatic, and both are started and running.

We need a solution now. We can only open and use our company data file in single-user mode currently.

The error reported on the client workstation is an H202 error

I was able to resolve the problem by adding the server IP and server host name to the hosts file on each workstation.

Steps to fix (on each workstation):

Open notepad.exe as Administrator
Open %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc
Show All-Files and open the filename hosts
Add a line: (server IP) (servername)
ex: 172.16.0.159 WIN-SERVER-WEST
Save the hosts file

No steps needed on the server that is hosting the QBW file, just verify that you have the firewall ports open for your version of QB for both Incoming and Outgoing and that the QB services user (created during install) has full-control permissions to the folder with the QBW file.

On the workstations, you can still open the QBW company file with \\ip-address\folder\qbw-file but now it works after you add the line in the hosts file.

I assume you have fully uninstalled and removed the older version of QuickBooks from the server, and that you have your 2012 & windows 7 workstations running the most up to date versions of .net and windows updates

You will want to make sure that you have the QuickBooks program and database manager installed on the server and updated

*Remember
The QuickBooks Database Server Manager application handles telling your clients where the files are located
QuickBooks manages the Multi-User hosting.
You have to have both on the same dedicated "QuickBooks Server"
*It is recommended that the company files are located on the same machine, but not necessary

If you are still having issues, I would try taking your recently converted company file and making it into a portable file.
You can either create a new network share or a new folder in the current network share location & move the old files to a new temporary location *make sure the database manager knows where the new network share is.

Open the portable file in QuickBooks as a new company file, making sure you are hosting the file through QuickBooks on your "QuickBooks Server" this will create a whole new company file.

On your workstations, flush the dns cache and make sure that when you are opening the company file you are using the UNC path ie: ( \\servername\network share name\company ), do not use a mapped drive ie: ( z:\ )

FiletypeAdvisor is literally able to open everything, I never had any issue with it. I like this tool because of very detailed report it provides with on each file, it also suggests good converters and alternative software for file opening.

If you are needing to edit the host file then your problem exists with DNS.
