Excel & QB crashes when I export reports. When it does work, it creates a blank Excel page. Windows 10, Office 2016 and QB pro 2016,how do you get them to work together?

Excel crashes each time I export reports out of QB.  Only been doing this since Windows 10 roll out.  I can't roll back my version, as I this is a new laptop, and it's the only version that came with it.  Been quite frustrating having excel AND Quick-books crash when exporting to Excel. The worst part is when it does work, it creates this blank Excel page (no grid or worksheet, just a grey background), and if I close it, it closes the ENTIRE program of Excel and all of my open workbooks.. there is no options to keep one workbook open over another, the entire program closes.  Im sorry, but that sounds alot like it's not compatible with Windows 10 or Excel 2016, can't quite tell which one is the problem child at this point.  If I use my old desktop computer with Windows 7, it works with out ever crashing, or having issues with Excel.  I have Windows 10, Office 2016 and Quickbooks pro 2016.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi there chickiebarnes80,

Thanks for posting.

Microsoft Office/Excel 2016 is compatible with QuickBooks 2016 R7, except for exporting reports. Exporting reports requires Microsoft Excel 2013, 2010, or 2007.

This is very disappointing.  Any updates in the near future to fix this?  This is a huge issue, that effects my everyday tasks in Quickbooks.  I do not know what to do with your answer but take it as: "your shit out of luck", as my new computer came with these specs.  I only have Office 2016.   I think it's ridiculous you expect people to repurchase an older version of office to work with your program.  You are the leading Accounting program out there, and you can't get reports to work with the new versions of Office?

I agree 100%!!!!  Come on Intuit, get with the times and last years technology.  Reports and Excel go hand in hand for everyone who uses your software!  We cannot function if you can't keep up with MS.

Hi @tntharris, Were your Office 2010 installed locally?...

Hi @tntharris,

Were your Office 2010 installed locally? Office 2010 and Office 2013/365 (including Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013) both on 32 and 64 bit are compatible with QuickBooks 2016 only when it is locally installed, not the web version. You can try renaming the XMLLITE.DLL file from the QuickBooks program directory. Here's the detailed instruction:

Let me know how it goes, and we'll take it from there. Thanks!

My computer died and I had to install Office 2016.  I am a CPA and I export a lot of reports each month when I prepare financials for my clients.  So, this Excel export issue is a real problem.  Has this been fixed yet?  If not, is there a way I can be notified when it is fixed?  Thank you!

Any progress. We have MS 2016 and other clients are using 365. Microsoft is progresses what is the problem with intuit?
This is a severe issue that intuit cannot give a flying leap about. If importing data with the stupid IIF files wasn't bad enough, exporting to Excel is a critical component of using QB. Who would buy a car if you couldn't get what you put in the trunk out? The lack of progress over several years must mean QB is abandoning desktop for the online version? Now if the online version was better or even close to the desktop version, I might switch. We certainly  are looking at alternatives.

This fixes issues that caused QuickBooks crashed while exporting reports to Excel.

Hey @MVEBA,

Excel 2013 is QuickBooks Pro 2015 compatible. You might want to check in this article:

I just want to say after reading these comments re: Excel 2016 and QB 2017 not being compatible...it STILL HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. VERY frustrating!! I did discover that if you want to go the extra expense of buying separate programs from Microsoft instead of their less expensive "packages", you can choose NOT to purchase the current Excel. This really isn't acceptable. I prefer the updated version of Excel over the older 2007 (that QuickBooks works with). So, until Intuit can get up with the times I have to unload and reload my Microsoft 365 package when I want to run specific Excel reports from QuickBooks (which is every 2 weeks for now). ALL my documents are on the updated format of Microsoft; you should see what the older version does to the formatting. I have to reload 365 to have my other files work properly. This is an INTUIT issue not Microsoft.

We have moved to exporting CSV format for the many, many, many exports we doe for our reporting.  It is more cumbersome and doe snot export the date and time of the reports, but it works.
Still this is a very blatant disregard of the loyal customers, myself since VERSION 1.
