Let me chime in @kboroumand.

Updating your QuickBooks Enterprise to the latest release won't affect any customizations made in your transactions such as your invoices, purchase orders, etc.

Also, yes, the backup copy for your 2018 QuickBooks Enterprise will still have the customizations made such as the letters, logos, images, templates, etc.

Moreover, yes, you'll still be able to import the 2018 back up copy you created even after updating your QuickBooks.

Thanks very much for your help. Just one more question.

Does the update affect any of the customizations?

We use QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions: Manufacturing and Wholesale 18.0 R14P

Our accountant has spent many hours customizing.

I want to make sure we wont lose any of it.

@kboroumand

What customization do you mean? Template forms? You may export it (i.e *.DES) from your old company file and import it to your converted one later.

As additional note, during intsallation wizard, don't replace your QBES 2018. You may install the new QB 2020 on the same machine and run them at the same time for the time being. Make sure you set a different name to each data file to avoid any mistake. You may uninstall the old QBES 2018 to save some spaces later once you don't need it any longer.

Hi Fiat,

Yes, I do mean the template customizations. Like Purchase orders, Invoices... everything that can be customized in QB and I am not upgrading to a new company. I just want to have the latest release of QB Enterprise which is the 2020 release on our server and all the client machines.

I'm assuming QB takes this into consideration updates from one version into a higher version shouldn't erase customizations.

If I do a backup in 2018 will the backup include customizations?

Will I then be able to import the 2018 backup into 2020?
