I have QB Pro 2008 on an old computer - I just purchased QB online - How do I get all my data from the QB Pro 2008 on old computer to this new computer and QB online?

Hi there, berry75b-gmail-c.

Thank you for posting here in QuickBooks Community. I'll provide information and steps so you're able to successfully transfer your data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

QuickBooks Pro 2008 is a discontinued version. With the QuickBooks Desktop Service Discontinuation Policy, older versions will no longer receive product updates and access to online services. With this, you need to download a trial version and install an updated one. Please make sure to meet the system requirements before installing the latest supported versions. This way, you're able to transfer your data from QBDT to QBO easily.

Once done, you can now start to import your QuickBooks Desktop company file to QuickBooks Online. Before that, make sure QuickBooks is up-to-date and check if your company file isn’t too big to export. Then, follow the steps below on how to import.

  1. Sign in as an admin to the company file you need to import.
  2. Go to the Company menu and choose Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Select Start your export.
  4. Sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online company.
  5. Select the Choose online company▼ dropdown, and choose the QuickBooks Online company you want to be replaced by your company file.
  6. Hit Continue.
  7. Enter “Agree” in the text field, then select Replace.
  8. Select Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then hit Replace.

After that, make sure your books match. You can run one of your financial reports to check if your import is successful. To see additional information, you can click this article: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Please refer to this article to view different errors when you convert from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online and how to fix them: How to fix errors when converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to tag me if there's anything else I can assist with. I'll keep my notifications open. Stay safe and well!

You may have 2 options to migrate data from QBD 2008 to QBO:

1. Find the trial license of QBD 2011 and 2015 to convert your old company in steps. Then open the converted file on the trial license of QBD 2021 and migrating it to QBO. We may share those trial licenses.

2.  Purchase a 3rd party conversion service.
