I'm trying reconcile expenses from 2024. I clicked on "Bank Trans" but it said there is nothing. I know that is not true. How can I see and classify old transactions?

I'm trying reconcile expenses from 2024. I clicked on "Bank Trans" but it said there is nothing. I know that is not true. How can I see and classify old transactions?

Hi, Inspired.

Please note that in QuickBooks Online (QBO), if you've categorized your 2024 bank transactions in the For review tab, they will automatically move to the Categorized tab and your Bank Register. These transactions will no longer appear in the For review tab. You can apply a date filter to view 2024 transactions in the register.

If all 2024 transactions appear in the register, you can reconcile right away.

However, if you have recently connected your bank account to QBO, please note that there is no guarantee of downloading all transactions from previous years, as this depends on your bank.

You can manually upload those bank transactions from 2024 in QBO. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Accounting, then select the Bank transactions.
  2. Click on the correct bank, then select the Dropdown icon next to the Link account button.
  3. Choose Upload from file.

  4. Select the correct account, then click Upload from this device to choose the downloaded file from your bank.

  5. Match the columns in the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks. Then select Continue.
  6. Select the transactions you would like to import. Then select Continue.
  7. Select Yes, then select Done.

Please make sure the data is in the correct format. You may refer to this article for more information: Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.

Once done, you can now categorize those uploaded transactions. Here's how:

  1. Go to Accounting, then select the Bank transactions.
  2. Select the correct account, then click For review.
  3. Click on All dates, then adjust the date range to display transactions from 2024.
  4. Hit Apply.

  5. Review each transaction, then select Add.

If everything is in order, you can begin reconciling transactions for the year 2024. I recommend consulting your accountant for assistance with the reconciliation process.
