I need to show my income accounts on my P&L and not just "Sales". How do I do that?

Welcome to the Community, @restoreit.

I'm here to provide you with some information about your Profit and Loss report. To better assist you, how are the income accounts setup? (regular chart of accounts, sub-accounts, etc)

Your P&L report could be customized to not show any income accounts. Let me show you how to check.

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Reports.
  3. Click Profit and Loss.
  4. In the top right-hand corner, press Customize.
  5. Pick the Filter section.
  6. Make sure a checkmark is beside of Distribution Account, and choose All in the drop-down box to show all accounts including income accounts.
  7. Hit Run Report.

Afterward, you'll be able to see all accounts that have a balance inside of the Profit and Loss report.

Learn more about customizing reports by looking into this guide.

Touch base with me after trying to customize the report. I want to ensure that you're able to get this resolved. Have a wonderful day!

I need to show my income accounts on my P&L and not just "Sales". How do I do that?

Than k you, yes I am familiar with running a report, however it just shows:

Income
  Sales
  Sales of Products

I need it to show:

Income
 Water
 Fire
 Floors
and so on for the actual breakdown of my sales accounts.

Thanks for the clarification, @restoreit.

There are a few reasons that your income accounts aren't showing up on your Profit and Loss report.

  • There is no balance within the income chart of account. (No activity of transactions)
  • The chart of account could be set up incorrectly. (Not an actual income account/could be product)

If you can provide me with a screenshot of the chart of accounts that are listed above within the chart of accounts list, then I'll be able to better determine a solution to your issue.

In the meantime, you can go to our tutorials page to check out videos that can give you general information about QuickBooks that can be helpful to you.

I'll be back around shortly.

Hello again, @restoreit.

Thanks for keeping us updated and providing the screenshot.

To have a detailed view of your income, expenses, and net income which shows individual transactions, you can pull up the Profit and Loss Detail report instead. Doing so will show the data you need.

You can follow the steps provided by @Candice C to filter the report.

Thank you for your response, however as I stated earlier to Candice, I know how to customize the P&L, it still shows Sales as my only income.

Thanks for providing an update, @restoreit.

I've looked over the whole post and referenced your screenshots and it looks like your products/services may have only the Sales income account associated with them. To verify this, I've included some super easy steps:

  1. Go to Gear, then Products and Services.

  2. Find the Product or Service you'd like to check in the list and click Edit.

  3. Look for the Income account drop-down. Make sure that the associated account is what you intended the Product/Service to be categorized under. If it isn't, select the correct account, then Save and close.
  4. If you corrected the associated Income account on the Product or Service, you'll want to tick the check box Also update this account in historical transactions.

That's it! If the account was correct and it's not showing on your Profit & Loss report, change the account to something else without ticking the box outlined in Step 4, save it, then change it to the correct account and tick that box and save. This will update the correct account and change all historical transactions to have that income account.

Thank you Michael!  We are close - I am sure, however I do not see the option (per my capture pic) to update in historical transactions as you show in your picture.  Am I missing it?

Thanks for the response, @restoreit.

In addition to my colleague's answers, you can create your income accounts in the Chart of Accounts. Then associate this to your product and service as income account.

Also, you’ll want to make sure that the item is already associated with a transaction.

Then, you can try to open the items that have already had a transaction before and change the income account to populate the Also update this account in historical transactions option.

Also adding this article you can check how to set up and track your services and non-inventory products in QuickBooks for your reference: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/use-products-or-services/track-your-services-or-no...
