I've been being charged monthly fees for employees that are not receiving paychecks. How can I be refunded for these fees?

Some employees haven't been working with me for years and one even is deceased. With other payroll companies you are only charged a fee for an employee if you actually send them a check. I didn't realize that QB charges you regardless of a check being sent to that employee or not.

Hi, @shanna9.

I understand your concern about being charged monthly fees for employees who are no longer working with you. You can submit request for a refund for this. Allow me to walk you through it.

To start, it's possible that the profiles of your former employees are still active in your Employees tab, this is the reason why you still get the charge even though they are no longer working with you. To ensure that you won't get any charges for these anymore, let's make them inactive.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu, then select Employees.
  2. Navigate the employees that are no longer working with you.
  3. In the Employment details click Edit.

  4. Change the status from Active to Inactive.

After marking those employees as inactive, you can submit a request for a refund for the associated fees.

Yes, that would be what we'd all expect. It's now QuickBooks Desktop works, for example (the real QuickBooks).

But alas, you're using QuickBooks Online, the flimsy imitation of QuickBooks Desktop, where most everyone's expectations are regularly shattered.
