If I'm trying to use the efile only for 1099 and see this "you'll need a new app to open this qbks2 link" what app do I need?

I've reviewed our ongoing/solved investigations and can confirm there's currently no records about users encountering a "you'll need a new app to open this qbks2 link"  message that prevents them from electronically filing their 1099 forms.
 

Initially, if you're using our QuickBooks Online desktop app for Windows/Mac, you'll want to instead access your account through a supported browser and try e-filing again.
 

In the event this message displays while using a browsing application, I'd recommend checking its temporary internet files. These types of records are stored on your computer, but sometimes they can cause issues with certain webpages. You can open a private window and try repeating the same process to see if it works.
 

Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Internet Explorer: Ctrl + Shift P
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

 

If you're able to e-file successfully without encountering the notification, it's safe to say this problem's being caused by temporary internet files. It can be fixed by clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies.
 

In the event this message continues displaying and preventing you from filing your 1099s, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
