Is it possible to export a company data file from QB online to a Desktop QB?

Hey there, @info1408.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community for support. I'm happy to lend a helping hand with converting your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

A few things to keep in mind before you convert your data to QuickBooks Desktop.

  • If using multicurrency in Online, your data won't export correctly into Desktop.
  • You'll need a recent version of Desktop before you start the conversion.
  • Internet Explorer 11 will need to be installed to complete the steps of the conversion.

Please see the full list of Limitations when you convert from Online to Desktop before you begin.

To convert your data, you'll need to do the steps listed below.

  1. Set up security Settings in Internet Explorer.
  2. Get your QuickBooks Desktop ready for the export.
  3. Prepare to export your QuickBooks Online data.
    • In QuickBooks Online, open the Gear Icon and choose Export Data.
    • Enter the reason for exporting and select Continue.
    • In the Moving to QuickBooks Desktop section, click Learn more.
    • From the Download company data section, tap on Learn more.
    • Hit Get started.
    • Select Install ActiveX Control Now and follow the steps to install ActiveX. Once it's finished, hit Continue.
    • Choose the data you want to export and then click Continue.
    • Review the limitations and tap on Continue.
    • Enter your contact information and then Continue.
  4. Finish exporting your data.
  5. Verify your information is exported correctly.
