Join nowMy file size is 1,091,056K and I've already condensed twice the last 2 years. I have 114 accounts, 2,117 names, 1,767 customers, 298 vendors and 36 employees. I have free memory of 4,194,303K.
Is there a point the file will become to large to work correctly? I was told by an IT person my QB will start having problems soon due to the size.
Hello there, @lisakeith. I can share some insights about the file size in QuickBooks Desktop.
Although there are no physical boundaries to the size of your company's data files, speed may be hampered if your network cannot handle massive data files. As the size of the company file grows, QuickBooks' performance suffers.
In order to compare reports and have prior-year project information, it's best to preserve at least two years of detailed transactions in a firm data file in QuickBooks Desktop. As a result, there is no suggested file size because different firms track different data.
You can condense the data if you're having performance issues or wish to minimize the size of your file. Here's a link to a page that explains everything you need to know about how to do it: Manage your data files in QuickBooks Desktop
In addition, I recommend consulting this resource for more information on the system requirements that function best with QuickBooks Desktop: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2020
If you need anything else, I'll be right here to assist you. Have a wonderful day!
QuickBooks data files larger than 500MB need to be optimized every 6-12 months to ensure they run at top performance. There is no internal functionality in QuickBooks to optimize the data file other than running a condense. The optimize operation will copy all data into a new data file, remove unwanted temporary data, and audit trail data to bring down file size by 25-40%. This will improve the performance and stability of the data file. Contact us in private for details.
Should my 303000 MB file work in QB Enterprise 2022?
Hello there, @djm1. Let me help you find out if your company file size would work in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Yes, your 303000 MB file should work in QBDT 2022. There are no actual limits on the size of your company data file. However, please note that the system's performance decreases as the size of your company file increases. Then, performance issues can happen once your network is unable to handle large data file.
When you have a large file and QuickBooks' performance is slow, you can reduce the size of your 303000 MB company file. To know more options in reducing the size of your file and guide you in resolving performance issues in QBDT, please see this article: Resolve QuickBooks Desktop performance issues: Manage your data file.
Also, you may want to visit one of our Help pages as your reference in case you need help in managing the growth of your business using QBDT: QuickBooks Support. It includes help articles, Community discussions with other users, and video tutorials, to name a few.
Please don't hesitate to keep me posted if there's anything else you need or questions about managing your QBDT company file. I'm always ready to help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @djm1.

The Enterprise version was designed to handle a much larger data file than Pro/Premier. There are some businesses running smoothly today with data files over 1 GB (gigabyte). There is no hard and fast rule on this topic. Nor is there any way to know exactly how many invoices, estimates, etc. will get your data file to become “too big”. But as I mentioned earlier, QuickBooks data files larger than 500MB need to be optimized every 6-12 months to ensure they run at top performance. There is no internal functionality in QuickBooks to optimize the data file other than running a condense. The optimize operation will copy all data into a new data file, remove unwanted temporary data, and audit trail data to bring down file size by 25-40%. This will improve the performance and stability of the data file.
So there is no good reason my 308916 file should have any issues running in QB Enterprise?

Yes. Unless your data file is damaged. Negative inventory is also one of the root causes of some problems.
Yes, @djm1. As Fiat Lux - ASIA said, everything should work unless there's damage on your data file.
To ensure that your data is in good condition, I'd recommend updating your QuickBooks to its latest release.
Here's how:
Once completed, close and reopen QBDT. Then, restart your computer to refresh the program.
Then, run the Verify Rebuild tool to confirm any data issues and resolve them.
Come again if you have additional concerns. We are always willing to assist.
